It's always cool to see the Death Egg again. I liked that more than the other final zone that you liked. The final boss was awesome, if only the rest weren't that stupid running gimmick...
Is it the large stages and hub that makes SA3 like a full hour longer than the first two? I'll give it a shot since you beat it with Sonic.

SA3 has REALLY large/long stages, and there are 5 stages per zone. (One hub stage, three normal stages, and boss stage.) The hub system pads out the length a bit too (and contains hidden collectibles if you care). There are 8 zones.

I'll check it out.
You confirmed that I don't need to bother with the DS one again. I probably never beat it back in the day.

Yeah Sonic Rush was kinda sucky, wouldn't bother if I were you.

+Some of the best graphics ever made for GBA. +Partner mechanic adds a whole new gameplay layer. +Huge levels offering plenty of replayability. +A unique hub system per zone full of secrets. +Level design consistently mixes up "gotta go fast" with "ponderous exploration". -The OST is not as good as SA2's (but it's still decent). -A little too much troll enemy placement / troll spikes. -Some of these bosses are inconsistently tough (if you don't use Cream). -Still never found a single special stage!? -Who cares about collecting those Chao critters.
Ex's time to beat: 2 hours 25 minutesEx's rating: 8/10 2h40m for me. I don't think I ever figured out how to do the partner maneuvers? I was playing with Sonic and Tails...
I also never found a single Chaos emerald in this entire trilogy. Wack!
Sonic Advance 3 was great. I don't think it needs to be that long (maybe it hard saves in between though? not sure) and I thought Zone 7 was really annoying. But the rest of the zones were generally excellent. I liked the graphics/music the most in this one, maybe I'm biased for that Green Hill remix in one of them haha.
I've now beaten:
Sonic 3D Blast
Sonic & Knuckles Sonic Advance Sonic Advance 2 Sonic Advance 3 Sonic CD Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (GG) Sonic Blast (GG)
Sonic the Hedgehog (SMS) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (SMS) Sonic Chaos (SMS) Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure (NGP)
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 Sonic Mania

That's a lot of Sonic. Still, I've beaten quite a few myself when I think about it.
- Sonic - Sonic 2 - Sonic 3 - Sonic & Knuckles - Sonic CD - Sonic: Triple Trouble - Sonic Chaos - Sonic Rush - Sonic Pocket Adventure - Sonic Adventure 2
I don't remember if I beat Sonic Advance, but if I did that would be the one I finished. Can't remember if I beat Sonic Blast or not.

I don't think I ever figured out how to do the partner maneuvers? Dang that sucks man. Tails can toss Sonic real high in the air, basically like having a spring jump whenever you want it. >I don't think it needs to be that long I agree, SA3 is too long. I like my 2D Sonic games to be under an hour. I'm glad you liked SA3. I'm sure if you'd used Cream in SA2, you would have liked it more as well. Sonic games I've beatenKnuckles' Chaotix (32X) Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (360) Sonic & Knuckles (GEN) Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (Wii) Sonic Advance (GBA) Sonic Advance 2 (GBA) Sonic Advance 3 (GBA) Sonic Blast (SMS) Sonic Chaos (SMS) Sonic Colors (DS) Sonic Colors (Wii) Sonic Eraser (GEN) Sonic Rush (DS) Sonic Triple Trouble (GG) Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN) Sonic the Hedgehog (SMS) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (GEN) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (SMS) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (GEN) Sonic the Hedgehog CD (SEGA CD) Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure (NGPC) Tails Adventure (GG) Tails' Skypatrol (GG) Team Sonic Racing (PS4)

I always went into the options to change the jump and "attack" buttons in these Sonic's, so I saw that the partner move was supposed to be the R button... but it never did anything? lol.
I also liked how they finally ditched that stupid double-tap + forward dash move Sonic had. It only got me hit and killed in Advance 1-2.
Sonic Mania is actually quite long, especially for a first run. It's like ~4-5 hours, but you can save in between whenever, so that's cool. I'm glad it was long since it's incredible and at this rate, I guess Sega's never making a sequel to it. Gah...

Did you ever play the Plus version of Sonic Mania?

A little bit. There's new characters and the levels might be remixed some, but other than a different colored skybox like a changed time of day, I wasn't too sure how much was really changed...
At this point I'm kind of just content with rocking Sonic himself whenever I play these nowadays. Just let me jump and roll/spindash, I'm good. lol, that said I did put in like 18 hours into Sonic Mania to 100% it when it first came out, so I did runs with Tails and Knuckles too. For team ups you can even do some funny combos like Knuckles & Knuckles.
