I hope KF3 ends up being a winner for you. Shame about the low FPS in DuckStation, but the experience is worth it.

I'm 3h30m in now. It's definitely a slower burner, but I'm having fun. I just got the "Pixy Map", which seems to auto generate a normal map for any area you're in I believe. This will help a lot. I've had the world map for a bit. Got a Copper Key for some chests, but still finding others and such I can't figure out. Maybe this one is chalk full more of extra items since the structure is different, but yeah. Like even at the start of the game there was some Dragon Eye I couldn't figure out how to reach.
These are some of the toughest skeletons too, I don't think they take any damage when they parry you with a shield block. Kind of have to juke them left to right I think... otherwise you're not fast enough to just circle around them. But I keep getting better gear to take more hits, so they're not quite as scary as they used to be. Unlike the first two games I've been running by enemies more in this one, just to see if I can get another item or better gear around the corner and it works at times. I'm still level 14 with like 3k gold though, so I'm killing a lot along the way too.
I left off in some town, Ralgudo or something, with a sick kid who has the plague. Something about a special red plant somewhere that I need to find.

I advise you to kill every enemy you come across, at least the first time you come across them. Some enemies drop unique items you can only get from them.
KF3 has the most NPCs out of all the other KFs, possibly combined even. It's as much an RPG as a dungeon crawler.
Also KF3 has my all time most favorite dungeon of the entire series, The Passage of Death. It is literally called that, and lives up to its name.

My New Years Eve was allllllllll King's Field III.
Probably one of my favorite moments so far. Meeting another dead giant passing on another power, just like in the others. The tales of giants doesn't end with King's Field Ex, expect to see more in Dark Souls...
I did the Palace of Wind, some Giant's Tomb, then a backtrack through the barracks and got Capricorn's Sword which seems to be my best weapon now. I have a Crescent Axe and Rapier as well which are pretty good. I have a warp to one town by a gold fountain and have two flasks I can use there. So going back to the barracks and the mazey garden before it wasn't too bad. I sunk two gold potions and a dozen herbs in my first run through the Palace of Wind, but I knew to light all the torches and figured doing so would unlock all the sealed chests in the dungeon. Which happened, so I warped back out when I was done charting the dungeon and cruised through it again a second time. I've got a lot of solid gear now, weapons, spells, rings, etc... my armory keeps expanding.
I still need a bow to hit some triggers in the barracks though, but that's easy to get back to with my first warp. I ended up buying a Silver Ring (4200) instead of the Bow (3800) for now at one point. Still hoping I just find a bow eventually. I've got tons of arrows and light arrows...
Think I have to go through some poison dungeon next...

Reminds me of the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time...
Makes me think of the Wrecked Ship in Super Metroid. This is a cozy town theme by the way:
Knocked out some lake area and then the "Passage of Robbers" I think some NPC called it. Found two huge royal chests and more good gear. The Silver Key. Got a special needle pin in Cason to save one of the old soldiers there that was stoned. I can warp to this area now too and through the Robbers dungeon, there's two new areas I can go to now.
Cason was actually tricky with all the dang ghosts in there and this was after I went through a lot of the Robbers dungeon, my sparse Gold Potions were draining. The ghosts kept getting me Cursed or inflicted with Dark. The headless skeletons are a real pain in this one too as they can also cast Dark on you, or get you paralyzed. Blood Stones felt kind of useless before though, so you finally do have to watch it with a lot of status effects in this one. Pretty nice that Gold Potions work as a full remedy too though. Now I have three Crystal Flasks so that's good. Definitely using magic a lot in this one
10 hours in now, level 26. Love how the music and areas keeps getting cooler. This really does feel pretty much like an old Dark Souls via first person.

I remember the ghosts, they are legit creepy. And yes, status effects actually matter in KF3. You're making fast progress. That KF experience stacks.

There were definitely some tricks and moments this session where I knew all my newfound KF experience was benefiting me a ton. It also helps that this one finally has item descriptions (not always for the rings though). This is also the second game since DQ8 that I'm using a spreadsheet with for notes, comparing equipment numbers and such. Diving in deep!
Forgot to mention something super cool, I found a big room full of "Light" family chests, from KF1. So I'm guessing I'll get a key for them sometime.
I'm still not sure if I see this one beating KF2 for me. But I'm kind of laughing how it feels like comparing all the modern Souls games... you're putting up gold against gold. It's a win/win no matter how you rank em'.

It'll be interesting to see how you rank the 4 main KF games once you finish them all. For the few fans of the series I've found online, everyone has a different ranking. But I agree, gold VS gold.

I made it to the inverted castle of Symphony of the Night. I didn't need any guides to discover the good ending, though I think the game's hints could have been a little clearer. Anyway, the game is kicking my ass with all the beefed-up enemies in the inverted castle!
