This also has an NES port named Kiwi Kraze. Pretty good game.

Yep. It's also a solid time. I remember playing it at a relative's place where my uncle had his wedding. Wouldn't mind stumbling across a cart. Loose cart price isn't terrible, at any rate.

I thought I had played it..... but I haven't. In my head I was mixing it up with Rainbow Islands and The Fairyland Story.

1989 Namco shmup with a Greek mythology theme. Honestly I'm not sure if I knew this was an arcade game. I have the Genesis port; it's not bad!

I bet Phelios is better than Legendary Wings on NES. I recently gave LW a fair shot, after being curious about it for years and years, finally got around to it. What a crude, highly repetitive disappointment LW was. I'll put this Genesis port of Phelios on my "shmups to play" list though.

I actually enjoyed Legendary Wings on NES. It seems difficult, but once you get powered up it's pretty easy. But maybe that's what made you not like it.

The highly repetitive "every level design and every boss is the same" aspect is what turned me off. It's like every level was just a palette swap of the first. The game balance was rough too, it was on the brutal side in a less than entertaining way. I think you have a masochistic streak when it comes to 8-bit stuff though.

Like I said, it's really the opening bit that's tough. Once you get powered up, it's really hard to actually die. I absolutely stomped the game once I was powered up. (The bonus stages are great for that purpose.) We also know I'm not actually all that great at shooters, haha, so if I can get through it you definitely could.
