That sounds like a fantastic idea. Maybe next year.

Well, this is pretty awesome. A native port of Mega Man 4 to the SNES - complete with an MSU-1 version that puts in the PlayStation version's soundtrack. Very slick, and hopefully lays the groundwork for more ports. I don't know if it's a generic framework or not, but it will likely enable other MMC3 games. And obviously, folks can go ham on updating the graphics for the expanded palette.
EDIT: Reading the Twitter thread, it sounds like there's a lot of manual work that has to be done to make it happen, so no, porting is non-trivial. Kudos to infidelity for making this happen!

This looks like it might be a really good hack of Zelda II. I still love that game, of course, so I bristle a little bit when folks act like it was trash, but I guess I can admit that it wasn't perfect. (Still love it.) www.romhacking.net/hacks/6292/

After all these years, I finally played some good Super Metroid rom hacks recently:
Ancient Chozo
First link has a lot of pictures too and I hope these do it some justice. The new pixel art is breathtaking, professional level work. Not only that, but some of the new extended areas even have new music as well. Ancient Chozo feels a bit like if Super Metroid's development cooked for another full year or something. And that's not to dismiss perfection. But this hack is like a large expansion of the original, creating new routes, constructing new areas and making some larger, while giving the already gorgeous original game a huge redux makeover in the graphics department. It's kind of like a huge "What if?" like this is the official Super Metroid from another alternate timeline. The physics and some features change things a tad, like a Morph Ball speedbooster maneuver. This is usually one of my biggest nitpicks with some SM hacks I've sampled, changing the original physics too much. But nothing about this one felt wrong.
This was one of the new tracks used, note that this seems like a random screenshot. Doesn't represent where you see and hear this in Ancient Chozo:
Now to be fair, it sounds like this hacks works a lot off the foundation of Project Base:
Project Base is an expansion of the original game with many of the new routes and larger areas that Ancient Chozo works off of. There is a lot more options in Project Base via Samus' main menu. Almost like some debug stuff, or tinkering with things, but I left it all as is. This even features new map stuff like collectible icon totals per area, a percentage total in the corner, and smoother scrolling. Overall, Project Base is really cool, but it's more back to vanilla if you play these back to back like I did. For diehards they're both worth a look, but Ancient Chozo is the one of the two that tries to be different and has a complete and incredible graphic overhaul that's a sight to behold.
DROPPED?
I finally played some of Super Zero Mission. I do not recommend this one whatsoever. While it has a little three positive reviews on romhacking.net, you'll see others all over elsewhere mention how sloppy and difficult this hack is. It was hard enough to navigate some high challenging parts or parsing what anything even is on the screen (foreground vs background? etc, it's so ugly)... but I also just simply got lost several times and realized after awhile, I wasn't having fun at all.
-
Anyways, I think I finally have a nice little list of some excellent romhacks I'd highly recommend any fans of the original games:
- Super Metroid Ancient Chozo, and Project Base
Like SM over the years, I've played and fallen off many LTTP hacks. Maybe there's some really good ones now worth playing...

Someone is working on a Genesis remake of the Game Gear Shinobi games. And it already has a rocking soundtrack.
