I sure hope they're not doing this, but it wouldn't surprise me. Pretty weaksauce, especially for a game that they've released four different versions of now.

Well I'm not gonna get that either...... but that's cuz I just don't like Persona much.

Ha, there's that aspect, too! I own Persona 3 FES, and I figure that's enough for me if I somehow get that itch.

Atlus has always seemed scummy from what I've seen over the last decade plus. Do they still maintain autonomy under Sega all these years later? I think that was part of the deal, but maybe wasn't for the best. They're lucky that Persona was a hit, otherwise I don't think they'd be trotting around like another Square Enix, for every good thing they might do or release, there's a few caveats along the way. Hence why I'm not very optimistic about SMT5 hitting anything outside of the Switch for a long time. Maybe on its 10th year anniversary they'll "remaster" it and break it into fragments like P3 here, and you'll have to pay $100 or whatever to play the entire original game. All these SMT's and Persona's could probably sell even better if they didn't have all these asinine rules and decisions around them.
That said, Sega is pulling the same crap with the latest Yakuza. I saw something about a difficulty or something being locked behind a paywall... maybe New Game +, I don't know. Whatever it was it sounded really stupid.

Xeogred It was the New Game+ IIRC which is in the "Ultimate Edition" or whatever. While I don't like it in principle, I'm glad it's not something I personally care about (there's so much content already, I'm not replaying all that). Atlus are still definitely the milking kings. Or MilKings (new slang term for 2024). Every game they release that does well get a million spin-offs and versions. That's just how they operate. The fact that Persona 3 even has a full game length "epilogue" is wild. Playing all the content related to the Persona games would take years. If they just released numbered entries every couple years, they'd be at P15 by now.

Publisher Super Rare Originals and developer Bynine Studio will release Nintendo 64-style collectathon platformer Cavern of Dreams for Switch on February 29
Not my jam, but for millennials that grew up on the N64 maybe it will be.

Cute but "collectathon" as a concept needs to die.

Not my jam, but for millennials that grew up on the N64 maybe it will be. Being born in 1987 living my entire youth before the internet and cellphones, you have no idea how much I loathe being grouped up with these goombas.
I thought Banjo Kazooie was alright, but Mario 64 blows it out of the water. Banzo Tooei was too long and Donkey Kong 64 is a recipe for physical pain.
I have the Spyro remasters to check out sometime. It'll be cool to see the Ratchet & Clank roots since it's Insomniac, I bet there's some shared DNA there.
The Crash games are brutally hard and fun, wish more people liked them. Kind of makes me think of Super Mario 3D Land/World, I loved World.
3D platformers I'm still cool with but it's definitely a rare mood kind of genre for me. Maybe I'll hit up one or two a year sometimes.

Collectathons are fine as long as they don't go too overboard. DK64 absolutely did. One that I will recommend heartily is the original Jak & Daxter. I was shocked at how much I really enjoyed the game - it's fantastic, and I wish they'd stuck with that instead of going all semi-GTA and grimdark.
