Played Rune Factory 3 for a couple hours today. It has a pretty addicting gameplay loop - the push and pull of the RP meter as I do everything I can from farm, forge, and fight without passing out is fun. Helps that passing out isn't too punishing, either - they take a bit of your gold, but it's not like half or anything. I passed out because I was far underleveled for a boss (the game actually tells you a recommended level for the area you're going into - I died at level 11 in an area you're supposed to be 15+ for, so I don't feel too bad. Also I had no food with me lol). Going dual blades, because I like them a lot. I upgraded my axe but I swing it slower now - I must still need to gain a few levels with it to be able to use it better. I'll wait a bit before upgrading the other tools (not that I have the recipes for them... yet). Also what the heck Xeogred, I'll go play some Blaster Master now with save states. You've convinced me! lol. No guarantees I'll beat it though.

I'm enjoying Blaster Master, just got the hover ability. No idea where to go. Apparently you can go back to prior levels, so there's probably a high ledge in one of them I have to ascend. I have used save states, mainly to prevent losing gun powers in the overhead areas. Still, I'm enjoying myself.

Yep yep, there's a very high ledge all the way back at the beginning.

Stage 4 is indeed one you have to backtrack to find. After that I won't specify for now, but there's two other stages that are kind of cryptically hidden later on.
Do try to be conservative with the Hover MP... it's kind of a pain farming for that sometimes haha. As it goes with some NES games back then (dying in Metroid is the worst).

Played Rune Factory 3 for a couple hours today. The real question... have you settled on a particular waifu yet? I'm enjoying Blaster Master, just got the hover ability. No idea where to go. Yep that's what used to happen to me as a kid. I'd beat a few of the bosses then be clueless as to where to proceed next. I do wonder if as an adult I'd be better at handling Blaster Master's design now.
I just realized this game deserves credit for being one of the original "metroidvania" releases, and a popular one at that. Metroid proceeded BM by two years, Castlevania 2 by one year.
Anybody around here a fan of the PS1 sequel?:

Ex No lol. The dating aspects of these games are always anime nonsense so I usually just pick whoever. I like the farming and combat and find the daily "give a present to your love interest" stuff tedious haha (at least Stardew Valley has decent writing with them, it's not all anime cliches, so that's novel, at least).

I quite enjoyed Blasting Again back in the day. It sold for a whopping $10 new. It's a lot better than some other ill-fated entries in the series (*coughBlasterMaster2cough*).

Ex : With how much you're talking up Blaster Master yourself, I'd like to see you play it too. Got an NES emulator on those handhelds? There's a bit more content and variety than Metroid, so that's why I tend to give it the edge in ways. But yeah also clearly a later NES title power house. A+ Sunsoft.
Don't get me wrong though, Metroid NES is a 10/10 for me. I'm in very rare camp that still prefers it to Zero Mission even. There is just nothing like the atmosphere of Metroid NES.
Blasting Again is really neat. I got it at launch too and as a kid, definitely thought something was wrong in getting a brand new game for $10. I think even as an innocent kid, I felt bad for the game because I knew that couldn't be a good sign for its fate haha... I never beat it, but it's one I'd like to go back and replay someday. Nowadays, I tend to expect it'd be something in the vein of Mega Man Legends, one you can recommend fans of that stuff. And like an alpha Metroid Prime lite. toei : If you play Silent Hill 3 PS2 with a SH2 save on the memory card:

I like how Team Silent kept all their humor for easter eggs, with the famous UFO endings and whatever else. And why are those absurdly grimy SH environments so appealing to me? I have a few days off over Christmas, maybe I can finally play it?
