Leveling up weapon skill greatly reduces RP use on attacking, which is nice (and leveling up in general means more RP), so now my attacks don't nearly instantly drain my RP lol. It does seem like you can only confirm quest objectives at the bulletin board/mailbox (this series, man. They always overcomplicate things. One quest getting location is enough! Even 5 does this lol) since you have to cancel quests there to take part in some festivals, which is in itself a bit odd, but whatever.
Beat the first dungeon and boss and am enjoying myself. Good series!

Yeah I definitely need to finish Brain Lord It's worth a playthrough for its amazing OST at the least. ( Brain Lord has my all time favorite SNES OST.) It's also got that dark mystique about it that 7th Saga has. Good stuff, even if one of the bosses is a giant cockroach. I've never finished a Rune Factory game, but I've sampled many of them. I legit own RF4 on 3DS, Frontier on Wii, and Tides of Destiny on PS3. I didn't like how slow RF1 and RF2 were, but as mentioned previous RF3 is where the series got the lead out. I'm looking forward to your final opinion of RF3 once you complete it. For me that's where this series really started.

Yeah I've never played Frontier or Tides of Destiny, I wonder if I ever should. Did you play much of them, Ex?

Kazin I just played to make sure they booted up. I watched a friend play Frontier for a while, it looked considerably advanced (more depth, better graphics, larger scope) compared to the handheld entries. But these are some long assed games man: That give up on life investment is what keeps me away from them. Meanwhile: Beating the RF3 main story in less than 30 hours is far more reasonable.

Wow, Frontier is bonkers long lol. I don't mind long playtimes though if the game is fun. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town took me 34 hours to get to the credits, though there's postgame stuff I'll poke at until I get bored. Maybe I'll check those out someday...

No experience with Rune Factory whatsoever. Art style is cute but yeah those games look way too long.
As far as Harvest Moon goes, I did like the SNES and N64 entries..... but not enough to dive into the series beyond that.

Honestly the best game in the genre is Stardew Valley, so I'd recommend that over any Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Rune Factory. Though I like all those games, SV is the most streamlined to play, and friendly to the player. Though it, too, is a long game, it's probably the easiest to take breaks from and come back to.

As far as Harvest Moon goes, I did like the SNES and N64 entries..... but not enough to dive into the series beyond that. What I like about Rune Factory is it incorporates action-JRPG stuff, bosses, dungeon crawling. You can farm in caves too. Honestly the best game in the genre is Stardew Valley My issue with that game is it has no official ending from what I can tell. Seems to be one of those "you can just play it forever" games, which for me are pointless. I like games to have a clear beginning and end. I need closure and a credits scroll.

There is an ending of sorts in Stardew Valley! Completing the town center requests gives you an ending, kinda. It's a very difficult task your first time through, could take multiple years. Still, you can play it forever, though getting to the end of the mines and deep enough to get what you want in the desert dungeon is difficult and time consuming. The combat in SV is basic, but serviceable and mostly fun.
There isn't really a beginning, middle, and end to the plot, though. Each villager has a storyline, many of which are interesting, too.

Yeah I definitely need to finish Brain Lord. I'm a huge 7th Saga / Mystic Ark fan, as I think everyone knows. In other news, I played some Blaster Master. Probably haven't touched this game in over a decade. I like the aesthetics a lot, as well as the swapping viewpoints. No idea what I'm doing or where I'm going though, which I would guess is a universal experience among those who have played this. Kind of reminds me of Rygar, Legacy of the Wizard, Majou Densetsu II, and other games where I kinda just roam around until I get stuck and die. This is fun though. I'd like to finish it someday. Glad I could somehow think of an ARPG you haven't finished heh. Brain Lord isn't perfect (god awful platforming in one area, or the RNG boulder maze...) but yeah it's a pretty neat and more obscure ARPG compared to the rest.
And heck yeah to Blaster Master. Each level has a boss in one of the overhead zones. The rest tend to just be for farming/powering up your gun. Beating a boss gives the the tank a new upgrade to reach another level. That's kind of the general format. I hope to see you, Kazin, or Ex finish it now.
