SargeNice to see you beat an adventure game again. I've sampled Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom in the past, but I fell off hard for two reasons. One I'm not so hot on the vegetables theme, and two there are FOURTEEN menu interaction options on screen: Given my aggravation with oldschool Japanese adventure games, wherein you play constant whack-a-mole with all the menu selections versus the environment, that amount of variability is an instant nope. That said, a lot of people really enjoy PTitSK, so it must do something right. The OST seems enjoyably quirky at least. XeogredIt was gratifying seeing you beat these SMS games: Master of Darkness Ninja Gaiden Phantasy Star Zillion II: The Tri-Formation Cycle Power StrikeI think your respect for the SMS may have leveled up after this theme. And of course it was rad that you finally beat Bionic Commando. If you still feel up to playing more for 4th gen, Bionic Commando on GB is arguably as good - and it sports a futuristic theme. Power Strike II on SMS is pretty good, but it is tough: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/sms/566173-power-strike-ii/reviews/167839

Bionic Commando GB looks great. Guess there's no color hack though.
Elite Forces... looks kind of weird.

Bionic Commando GB is great, I think you'd really enjoy it. Elite Forces is crap, don't bother with it. I've beaten every BC game out there (including the arcade original) with the exception of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. I have that one on 360, just haven't gotten to it yet. The first Rearmed is pretty good (I beat that one co-op with a friend), and Bionic Commando (2009) is very underrated, I gave it an 8/10 (360 version).

I enjoyed Rearmred and the 2009 game myself. I can't remember Rearmed much though. The 2009 game was very 2000's Capcom/Clover/Platinum stupid fun stuff. Yet I want to say I remember the ending being a sudden emotional gut punch with the arm plot twist or something. I'll take your word for it on Elite Forces then. The OST sounds awesome but everything else, yuck. The character sprites are way too massive for that screen size.

I actually didn't hate Elite Forces - it's a decent-to-good time. But you gotta keep those expectations firmly in check. It's not a patch on either the NES or the Game Boy game, both of which are fantastic.

SargeDid you ever play the Rearmed entries or the 2009 3D Bionic Commando?

Did you ever play the Rearmed entries or the 2009 3D Bionic Commando? I have played the reboot briefly, but didn't stick with it. I have beaten both of the ReArmed games, though - the first was great (excellent source material), the second was solid but I didn't like the stage design as much. It reminded me more of the Genesis-era Sonic design where there are a ton of paths through the levels and it feels a little too open for a game of that ilk. Wonder if I posted my thoughts anywhere? Gonna check my old haunts for a bit. EDIT: Guess not - probably lost to the ether (I think RHDN lost a lot of older posts, and Talking Time has been through several transitions).

Adding one more to the tally: Asterix and the Secret Mission. I haven't played the sequel to the original game, but apparently it's a much worse endeavor, so I skipped to this one, which is much more like the first Asterix SMS game I enjoyed. This one was enjoyable as well, although I don't think it's quite as good - it's not as long or involved as the first game. But at least it does still have a few alternate stages for both Asterix and Obelix. I actually think the Obelix playthrough was more fun overall - he moves faster by default, and his butt slam has a more forgiving hit box than Asterix's downward fist attack.
Much like the first game, there's a significant amount of slowdown everywhere. Performant this game is not. But it doesn't get in the way of a solid time. 7/10.
EDIT: Moar Asterix! This time it's the NES game. It's a pretty straightforward platformer. Some tricky bits, but nothing that's too crazy, and the game is pretty generous with lives (especially if you can hit the bonus stages). Controls are a little floaty, but manageable. I'd say this one was enjoyable for what is was, but it's probably only a 6/10. Decent, maybe bordering on good, but doesn't stack up with the best on NES.
