Savaged Regime has some serious skill with the Genesis. From Harmony of Dissonance, the Castlevania that gets a lot of guff for having pretty bad audio quality:
And for reference, a VRC6 remix (which is probably closest to what they were aiming for in the original game):

A remix of Leela and Covenant Dance from Marathon and Halo.
Pretty cool.

Covenant Dance is my favorite track in Halo 1, when the bass kicks in.

Well, I had a tough time finding the track toei posted in NES form, but here's another, using the VRC6 (which is cheating a bit, of course). But it's amazing, y'all.

Imagine what the Mega Man composers could have done with the VRC6... man oh man. Maybe something like this? ... can't tell how many channels he's using.

I'm trying to decide if that's Famitracker and heavily post-processed, or just using samples.
This one is Famitracker for sure, though.

Yeah, there are some great remixes in there. I do wish they'd mixed up the style a bit, though; lots and lots of gothic rock, but I think more classical or even some electronica would have been nice. Still, the sheer number of musical tracks from gaming history by itself is very nearly worth the price of admission for the new Smash.

It's fascinating how quick Konami is to do zero effort and allow their mascot characters and IP's to be used in other things. The amount of Metal Gear content is staggering in this too. I feel like any other company in the business -obviously- realizes just how important and legendary so many of their IP's are... really wish Konami would just let Nintendo or someone else cook up a new Castlevania or whatever. Let other companies at least rent out their IP's so we can get some new games. Konami wins with no craps given... I'd much rather have new Castlevania games than a TV series.
Lots of Capcom in the game too...
And meanwhile here's what Square Enix let them get for Final Fantasy: - Cloud, two costumes max - Cloud's voice is Japanese only, NO English... lmao - One level - Two songs
No spirits or any other references in the game anywhere. I mean sure Square Enix is in a different position than Konami and some others, FF alone could have its own Smash-verse and there's a billion tracks, etc, I get it... but sheesh. Talk about stingy. It just ultimately makes them look bad in my eyes when everyone else played nice.
