Is it weird that the 3DS already feels like forever ago? Guess that depends on when a person stopped playing 3DS and started playing Switch? To me personally, 2011 doesn't feel like forever ago; most of my 3DS' library is less than ten years old. The most recent 3DS game I beat was Ever Oasis (2017) back in July '22. The most recent DS game I beat was Sonic Rush (2005) back in August '21. I'm planning to hit up some more DS soon for this theme. Time to load up the ol' flashcart.

It probably is because I haven't played mine in some time. I have too many systems and not enough time!
What flash cart are you using with your DS? I've used a bunch over the years. Started with the venerable R4, then an Acekard 2, got an M3i Zero when I got a DSi, then an Acekard 2i... I've got too many of them, haha. My least favorite of the bunch was the M3i Zero. It never really performed up to snuff compared to the Acekard, especially with AKAIO installed. The Wood firmwares are also good for older R4 cards.

What flash cart are you using with your DS? An old R4 with the Wood firmware and a 2 gb Kingston made in Japan microSD. Always been rock solid. The 2 gb size limit is a little annoying, but the performance has always been 1:1 so no real complaints.

Yeah, I remember that limitation with my old card. Was frustrating, but yeah, performs great. Remind me the next time I send you something, I can let you have this AK2 I've got floating around. It would free you from those file size constraints.

It would free you from those file size constraints. Sounds good, I'm sure we can horse-trade something. 👍

Oh man, I love the DS so much, so this is going to be a fun one Gonna try to stay largely away from RPGs so I can hopefully complete some more games than last month (though I can't ever really stay away, since it's my favorite genre). The initial list I'm considering: - Space Invaders Extreme
- Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
- Chibi Robo! Park Patrol
- Aliens: Infestation
- Bangai-O Spirits
- Dragon Quest VI
- Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
- Knights in the Nightmare (I think I've tried this one like 5 times now. I know it will click eventually!)
- Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan
- Last Window: The Secret of Cape West
- The Legend of Kage 2
- Suikoden Tierkreis
- Blue Dragon Plus

I'm curious whether Ex ever played the Rengoku games, being that they're robot games and on the PSP. I just gave the first one a quick try. Basically you're a robot and you have to climb a tower. It's pretty much all combat - there are a few rooms per floor where you have to defeat all the enemies, you pick up whatever they drop. This is a humanoid robot, mind you, not a mech, but you can still equip both guns or short range weapons, and there's a quick side-roll move. Combat feel is just ok, movement is pretty fast but impact is lacking. Might be ok as a simple combat game if you like robots enough, though it's definitely going to get repetitive fast.

spiffsneed : I won't steal Ex 's thunder on a couple of recs in your list (he originally recommended them to me!), but I really enjoyed both Dragon Quest VI and Suikoden Tierkreis. Although I'd probably recommend DQ first. Tierkreis doesn't get much love, so maybe it clicks for you, maybe it won't.

Doesn't Suikoden Tierkreis have really bad voice acting? Is there an option to turn it off or an undub out there? I should give that one a look at least someday. The only Suikoden game I haven't played I think.
I had some nitpicks with DQ6 SFC but it was still amazing. I'm glad I got a cartridge of the DS remake while I could. I'll give that version a run someday.

It's only for the main character, and it's that they sped up his lines a bit, so he sounds a little like a hyperactive chipmunk. Probably space constraints. It honestly didn't bother me that much. I've heard way, way worse (Baten Kaitos and Chaos Wars, I'm looking at you).
