I have zero inclination to play Uncharted, that's for sure. Yeah it wouldn't be your jam, I'm certain of that. >Gears of War at least might be fun I've only beaten GoW1 and GoW2, and both via split-screen co-op. As co-op games, these were decent (like 7/10). Not sure how single player would go, but if you care about playing pivotal games in genres, Gears of War was a BIG deal for the cover shooter genre. I thought that Gears of War 1 and 2 were incredible when I played them on my cousin's XBOX 360 in 2006 or 2008. Later in 2014 or so I tried to replay the second one with my Dad in coop mode and it bored us. We just couldn't stay engaged, so we put it away and never picked it up again.

anayoYeah GoW was definitely a product of its time. Doesn't surprise it's not aged well. I've only finished GoW1 and GoW2, but via local co-op. At the time I gave GoW1 a 6/10 and GoW2 a 7/10. I haven't played GoW3, Gow:J, or GoW4 yet... no idea on those.

I mentioned recently this thread kind of inspired an idea for me to chip away at my GOG library that I never really touch.
Low and behold I even have a few games installed on one PC that I haven't played yet, so I should start with those!
Enclave Gorky 17 Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete Nox Side Meier's Alpha Centauri Planetary Pack Torin's Passage
Tyrian 2000 Wizardry 7 Gold
-
Has anyone played any of those?

I played the first Heroes of Might & Magic in 2-player VS mode, it's a decent game. Basically competitive adventuring. Don't know anything about the series after that.

- Has anyone played any of those? I've played the bolded ones. The version of Gorky 17 I had for PC was called Odium. I played (not beat) it back in 2000 so memories are hazy, I remember it being kind of a survival horror action-adventure with strategy battles. I also remember it was difficult. Tyrian 2000 is a highly decent shmup that feels more like it was Japanese developed despite being developed by westerners.

Tyrian 2000 is indeed pretty cool. Though you can tell it's a non-Japanese shmup, haha.
Zero checkpoints, so dying at the first boss put me at the start of the level again. What I'm iffy on is that there's no real power up system during the level. You do all the shopping/upgrades beforehand. All you get in the level is score/money and some "data cards" which I'm not sure on if they do anything. For my first run I didn't spend any money at all, not knowing you don't get power ups and stuff in the levels. So my second time through was more powered up and fun. The music and graphics are pretty good. The graphic setting defaults to "Pentium."
The game says it saves in between levels, so that's cool. I'll see if I can configure a gamepad next time and play more. Felt kind of awkward playing with the keyboard... goes to show I haven't had to use that for emulation/shmups in ages at this point.

Nightmare of Druaga, The: The Fushigino Dungeon (PS2)
Fushigi no Dungeon is the Japanese name for the Mystery Dungeon series. A literal translation would basically be "dungeon of mystery" or "mystery's dungeon", as "no" is the possessive particle in Japanese grammar. So it's bizarre that it was released in America as if it was about a Fushigino-style dungeon, knowing that's not an actual word. Reminds me of SD Valis becoming "Syd of Valis".
It's also not a standard entry in the series. Chunsoft has collaborated with other companies like Enix, Square and Nintendo for their series, but this one just wasn't made by them at all - instead it was developed by Arika (Street Fighter Ex) and Matrix Software (Alundra) for Namco, with Chunsoft's permission (and licensing fee?). Akira Nishitani, one of SF2's main creators, was directly involved in the game design. So while it keeps some of the basic systems, it's pretty significantly different. Just in the little tutorial-style first visit into the dungeon, you now have to find keys for each floor, the feel of movement and combat is different (though monsters still move when you do), you can't unequip "unappraised" weapons at all, there's lots of mechanics that seem unique to this entry. You always have an item to leave the dungeon instantly and will keep equipment that has been "inscribed" in town if you do so. Movement speed now depends on the weight of your equipment, you have to break walls... Might be worth a deeper look down the line, but as for now I'd rather play Shiren 3 or Asuka next time I'm in the mood for a roguelike.

Nightmare of Druaga, The: The Fushigino Dungeon (PS2)/ Might be worth a deeper look down the line I actually own a still sealed physical copy of this PS2 game. I've owned it for many years. You'll probably get to it before I do, and given your experience with the Mystery Dungeon games, I would value your opinion on this one.

Wind's Seed (PC-98)
This is that recently fan-translated Compile RPG from their disk-based magazine, each issue of which would feature multiple games. So it's obviously not equivalent to a full-fledged commercial RPG. Actually it just got really tedious pretty quickly. You're fighting the exact same battles over and over, I played for over an hour and only fought three enemy types, including one palette swap. There's this gimmick where you have to use the "Call" command for your attacks (or healing) to be more powerful the next turn, but you have to use it first thing every battle cause you're useless without it, so it just adds and extra step to the turn-based battles. Dungeon layout is annoying as hell, too, since it's a side-scroller with exits up or down the screen that just loop over in ways that don't really make sense. Story seems destined to be lighthearted nonsense that goes nowhere. There's no way this would end up being better than a 5/10.
