The box contained a massive stack of Super Nintendo cartridges labeled “DOOM TROOPERS”. At first I thought you were talking about this: Interestingly enough, the SNES action game is based on a franchise that was a pen 'n paper RPG: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutant_ChroniclesI like this idea a lot better then what we actually got.

That's the first game that popped in my head, too. Didn't realize (or had forgotten) it was based on a pen-and-paper RPG, though. Definitely sounds like it would have been a cool game, though! I had my own weird dream, but it mostly revolved around finding weird stashes of various books, including a Game Boy Player's Guide (that did exist, but this was different). They were all overpriced, though, so I didn't buy anything. See, even in dreams, anayo has better luck than me!

I was playing a video game at my mom’s house on her 65 inch TV. The game was similar to recent open world video games, with a vast, seamless map covered in forests and mountains and populated with NPCs and enemies. The hero was a mother whose son was kidnapped by the forces of evil. She had to wander the landscape completing objectives, gaining experience points and levels, and ultimately finding her son. I came across a group of people who allegedly had her son, but it proved to just be a cyborg cartoon tank boy who resembled her son. The cartoon tank boy was blue, with a shiny, sterile CGI appearance like the mid-90’s TV show “Reboot” and he shot missiles at the screen like a boss from Virtua Cop II. I had to intercept the missiles just like a light gun game. He spoke in a robotic voice had some kind of catchphrase he kept repeating. When I defeated him I gained a bunch of experience points and grew to level 3. I wanted to keep playing, but Mom and I had to get in the car and go somewhere, so I saved my progress and turned off the game.

Fun stuff, anayo. You know, I'm convinced that some of the better video game ideas might come from dreams and whatnot. I had some weird dreams last night, too, but I'm not sure it was so much I was playing a game but more I was in something that could have been in a game. I played a lot of Control last night, so I think maybe it was linked to that. Apparently I was in some sort of junkyard, and I was shooting missiles at various mechanoid and mechanical enemies that were around me. I was ducking in and out of cover shooting said missiles, which launched very quickly (a lot like the Control telekenetic launches, actually). I got crowded at some point by what I think was a mech/car hybrid, but I was able to just get off enough shots at point-blank range within the reload time to take it out. Very strange, indeed.

I dreamed I was in a pawn shop in Brazil. I was concerned that the Portuguese language barrier would make it hard for me, but for some reason it didn't. In the pawn shop I found a huge section of video games. Conveniently all the games were just American games. Maybe the pawn shop transformed into America halfway through the dream, I'm not sure. They had Super NES, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and a big section devoted to Nintendo 64. Some of the N64 games were boxed. Specific titles included Star Fox 64, Charlie's Blast Corps, and Pokemon Snap. They also had a weird peripheral for Pokemon Snap. It was a motion sensitive LCD screen you were supposed to connect to your N64 and aim around the room to take pictures of Pokemon. I thought it was impressive they designed something like that in the late 90's.

Not a video game, but I dreamed that they had set up giant Sonic levels in Montreal for people to run through. They didn't have loops or any kind of platforming, they were just courses that took you through various stores and buildings (you just followed arrows on the ground). At one point I ran through a grocery stores and the course had me running into stacks of empty boxes or canned foods. I stopped for a moment and wondered whether I should pick them back up, especially since some old people in the store were giving me funny looks, but finally I decided it was just supposed to happen that way since there were arrows on the ground and cardboard Genesis-era finger-wagging Sonics all around the store and it was supposed to be a race against time.

That makes me remember, growing up I always thought if F-Zero were real, that would have been my career and what I wanted to do with my life.

I woke up a lot in the middle of the night and had a lot of different dreams, but the main one I remember is that I was on a business trip in California. I was on some interstate when I stopped at a place that was familiar to me. It was some kind of carnival, with big gaudy colorful signs. They might have been advertising rides and fried food. Something compelled me to stop my car and go inside. Within the building was a massive arcade. I don’t remember any specific titles except that one was a racing game. It may have had an actual motorcycle you could mount and rock side to side in order to steer. The general vibe I got was that they were all from around the same time period as early 90’s Sega arcade model 2 games. The place was ostentatiously large, with a huge vaulted ceiling and colorful signage everywhere. The strange thing was that the dream was supposed to take place in the present day, but this arcade didn’t appear to have changed a bit in the past 30 years. It felt like a time capsule.
