Thanks for the input toei. Of all those titles, I had a feeling you had experience with the Sengoku titles.
I'm going to make another post in the Random Gaming Thoughts thread for the rest of the Neogeo games on Switch that interest me.

I honestly have experience with pretty much 95-99% of the beat-'em-ups released in the '80s and '90s. If I've never played it, it's because it's incredibly obscure - say, a bootleg Russian PC game or something. I'm a big beat-'em-up guy - the only reason I don't talk about them all that much is I pretty much ran out of beat-'em-ups to play a few years ago, and those I haven't finished either suck (there's a lot of those) or just don't click with me (like Shadow Force, which I'd like to play through if only because it's Technos).
I agree with Sarge concerning Night Slashers. It's got nice graphics, and I think that fools some people, but it's really so-so. One of the most annoying thing about it is that almost none of the enemies fall right away when their health is depleted, and they don't have gauges like they do in Streets of Rage, so you end punching at the air just constantly. Makes it hard to stay in control of the crowds in single-player when you're wasting time like this, and it creates this unsatisfying feeling.

Yeah, I didn't care much for the SNES port of Sengoku when I tried it. Just... bleh.
I'm not sure I'd call arcade Sengoku good, but it's always held some fascination for me. I saw it in an arcade when I was younger, and thought it looked super cool. Maybe the best comparison is a game like Altered Beast? Not in play style, but in that it might not be the best game in the world but I still have a big ol' soft spot for it.

Altered Beast is miles ahead of Sengoku, gameplay-wise. At least the Genesis version is. The arcade Sengoku is borderline unplayable once you get a few levels in. It's the sort of game where you just constantly feed credits just to see what the next level looks like.

Well, yeah, that's absolutely true from what I played. Turns out my memories of it weren't exactly stellar when I booted it up last year. I think the arcade version of Altered Beast is quite tough, sometimes very cheap. The Genesis version is a lot easier: I managed to get through it on the third or fourth time through, and I'm pretty sure I bumped up the difficulty to the max and got through that way as well soon after. That's no walk in the park, though.
To be honest, I don't know why folks rag on that game so much. I know it's simple, but I still think it's a pretty fun time overall.

Yeah, the arcade version isn't balanced properly. Just seems to throw more enemies at you that you can kill at your character's speed. The Genesis game is definitely pretty decent.

Robo Army on Neo Geo is decent.
+Above average graphics for the time. +Fighting engine feels tight with good hit boxes. +Hot robot on robot action (beat robots up with their own arms). +Boss battles are great. +Transform into a car and run over all the things.
-Enemy variety ceases halfway, just palette swaps the whole back half. -Could have used more stage variety (like bombs, pits, or other hazards). -Boss rush at the end was kinda meh. -Perhaps a little too short.
Robo Army could have used more variety, but it was short and sweetish. 7/10 material.

You know, I have an old Game Informer that covered that game (back when it was a publication of Funcoland!), but I still haven't played through it to this day. Maybe I should get to that; it looked really cool to me at the time!
