I don't want to come off like I hate VNs. I've "played" a few that I really enjoyed. But I've also played a few that I just started skipping through the text to see the artwork and get it over with. I prefer for a VN to not be more than 3 hours long, unless it has tangible gameplay intertwined. There are some VNs out there that take 50+ hours to finish just ONE route through.

I like 25 hr VNs with some juicy routes and a true ending. I think the only 50+ hr VN I ever played was Muv-Luv Alternative, which is excellent.

Yeah I'm that guy that will watch the anime over the VN's.

Muv-Luv Alternative, which is excellent. I almost bought that for Vita, until I found out PQube censored the shit out of it.

The "h" content in the game is trash and the story flows better without it.
That said, the Vita port additionally neutered a violent scene that's literally the pivotal moment of the game. Very poor decision.

H content is life.
I detest censorship of all forms though. Thankfully the original Windows PC Japanese Muv-Luv versions have full English fan translations... I may read through these VNs that way someday.

Beat the GBA version of DKC3, 87% at 4:44.
First off, nearly 5 hours worth is why you should never marathon the trilogy like I used to for replays. Anyways, I wanted to play this version because it has an additional world that was cut from the SNES original supposedly and then it has David Wise redoing the whole score. Eveline Fischer scored most of the SNES version in comparison, who also did some tracks on the first DKC. David Wise is amazing and I know of a lot of his work beyond just this trilogy. But ultimately I think my takeaway here is that Eveline's SNES score is better. Could be a little nostalgia, but there were two tracks in the GBA version that are just kind of remixes of original DKC tunes. There were also a few levels that had like a minute long of ambiance before the music kicks in. In such a game where the Bonus levels or warps reset the music sometimes, you could get through half these levels before the music even kicks in. It was bizarre.
The GBA's lack of buttons makes for some cumbersome controls, especially controlling the Elephant. The momentum/physics have been tweaked some too. Any veteran knows when you roll through enemies in the SNES trilogy, it gives you a burst of speed. Not here, so that was really weird. There were a few levels like the water ones where the screen space seemed different too. I know some GBA game conversations had to sacrifice a lot of visibility (the GBA version of Rockman & Forte is a major offender). The main overworld is mostly unchanged in a way, but the other maps are different and a lot uglier. You can save anywhere now though and there's a few new bonus games thrown in, like some rhythm game with Cranky Kong.
Now let's compare some music:
vs vs
Not to say that the GBA version often being more upbeat makes it worse OR better, but yeah quite a tone difference between some versions. Wise did what he could with the GBA but yeah.
Worth a look for fans of the original.

It felt a bit like the Special World in Super Mario World, where you'd see familiar levels and enviros, but with a new sky/colors, one area was a treetop level with water that was never a thing prior to this world, etc. So it was neat to see some level ideas remixed around. The whole extra world's theme was a water area though, which... this game already has plenty of. The weird thing is it has an old boss from the SNES version, whereas one of the former original world's has a new boss in place of that. The new boss was annoying and weird.

Doesn't look bad for GBA. I get the sense I would like DKC3 way more than I did DKC2.
