Almost at 5 hours in FFX now. The game's still very much kicking the tropical/oceanic theme. July is the right time to be playing this. Anyway I just looked at the HLTB average for FFX. The Main Story has a solid blue average of 48.5 hours. I had no idea this game was so long. Looks like I'll be playing it into August at least. (I still plan to finish Super Bonk 2 and Summer Heat Beach Volleyball this week though.)
So far, I am enjoying FFX, much to my surprise. I'm still not sure why I hated this game so much back in 2007. I don't know if stuff starts to get really annoying, or I was just too jaded to appreciate it. I have to admit, Tidus' goofy ass is starting to rub off on me. I'd hang out with him over Cloud or Zidane any day. I don't even find Wakka as annoying as I used to honestly. Well, we'll see how it goes. I've still got a LONG way to go apparently.

That got me curious, I guess my 2014 save is at 53:16. For some reason I thought it was shorter, it doesn't feel that long! Which is yet another testament to it being awesome.

I guess my 2014 save is at 53:16. For some reason I thought it was shorter, it doesn't feel that long! Which is yet another testament to it being awesome. Well hopefully I'll have more time for gaming next week then I did this week. Between my dayjob being extra demanding, and random real life obligations, I barely had any time for gaming this past week. I did spend some time with Super Bonk 2 today though, and decided to drop it. SB2 is not a bad game, but the tropical theme only lasts for the first stage. After that Super Bonk 2 becomes much more abstract in its level themes, and really doesn't fit this event's aesthetic very well. So, nah, moving on. I still plan to give Summer Heat Beach Volleyball a fair try before this month ends. Just need a free hour or two to hit up its arcade mode. I think the arcade mode is the only way to "beat it". As for FFX, I am chipping away at it as I have time. I obviously won't be finishing FFX before July is over though.

I get the vibe I either have too much free time sometimes or everyone else got really busy at the same time.

I get the vibe I either have too much free time sometimes Well sure man, if you're a bachelor without kids, yeah you're gonna have more free time than married family dudes will. Plus renting an apartment, you're not saddled with the time devouring upkeep of a large house and big yard. The free time math works out in your favor in those instances. - I did put another two hours into FFX late last night. I had my first blitzball game. I remember not liking blitzball, and yeah, that part still holds true eleven years later. As a mini-game blitzball's just not fun at all. It does not play smoothly, and is mechanically uninteresting. The AI is totally in the game's favor to boot. Hopefully I won't have to deal with anymore forced blitzball matches. Seriously Square, JRPG dorks did not buy FFX to play underwater soccer.

Thankfully that should be the only point in the entire game where you're forced to play some blitzball. It's purely optional afterwards.

Well I've got about 10 hours in FFX now. I'll say at this point I'm enjoying this JRPG now more than I did eleven years ago. I'm still not 100% sure what made me quit playing this back in 2007. Maybe as I play that moment will come and I'll remember... or maybe it won't. For now some quick positives and negatives thus far:
+I really like the visual world design of Spira, great environment aesthetics. +The battle system is simple and good (legit turn-based, none of that ATB crap). +Monster designs are great. +The Sphere Grid is actually cool. +Auron and Lulu are good characters.
+/-Plot is WTF.
-Extremely linear (plus slow pacing) so far. -Piss easy difficulty up to this point (I imagine this will change though.) -Cutscenes involving Yuna and Tidus are always cringe inducing. -Yuna's voice actor does a terrible job. -Blitzball could have been fun, but the mechanical implementation sucks.
I'm having fun enough to keep going. I guess I'm about 1/5th through based on my time.

Yep, blitzball was never all that fun. I didn't like it at all even when I played it all those years ago. It was, like most RPG mini-games, pretty terrible overall.
