For me jumping off ropes in Rusty was my nemesis. Just never knew if it'd happen as intended or not. Yeah the PC-98 has some great stuff. I really enjoyed Night Slave and Rude Breaker, I recommend those. It'd be nice to see more English fan translations for this platform.

Jumping off them, trying to grab them, attacking while on them sometimes causing Rusty to just fall. Night Slave is still one of my favorite PC-98 games, its just excellent. I really dug Rude Breaker too. Flame Zapper Kotsujin is still my favorite non-Touhou PC-98 shmup of what I've played so far. There was a preview for a translation of Starfire that got posted a few days ago, its already complete and is expected to be released in the next two weeks. Looks really cool! Preview: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hkkQrYOOYQ&ab_channel=%E3%82%AD%E3%83%Someone is working on translating Possessioner too, was updating their thread within the last year so hopefully its still going. Granted, its an eroge VN, but its freaking gorgeous.

Never heard of Starfire before, but I would play Possessioner in a heart beat. I've seen many screenshots from it dropped over the years. I forgot about Flame Zapper Kotsujin, I've played that one, but not beaten it. I agree it's high quality stuff. You would probably approve of this month's Club Retro theme, by the way.

Good to see you dunpeal2064! Man oh man, aesthetically Rusty is ace! I recently watched more Slayers and some other 90's anime, that's a style I'll always dig hehe. Bring back leotards!

I tell you, some of the anime artwork in those PC-98 games is fantastic. Really cool stuff in a style that I like a lot more than modern anime.

I'm curious, are there any other good platformers for the PC-98? I know that wasn't its strong suit, but I feel like there might be something else on there that would appeal to me.

are there any other good platformers for the PC-98? Sei Senshi Mokkoriman is worth playing for a laugh. Totsugeki! Mix is legit decent, I enjoyed what I played of it, but I didn't finish it (yet).

This is a cool thread, dunpeal2064 , looks like I have some catch up reading to do. Thank you! I hope to keep updating this as long as I can. On PC-98 platformers, Totsugeki! Mix does seem pretty good from what I've played, I believe it's the same team that made Rusty. There are a fair amount of platformers that had releases on more accessible platforms. Popful Mail is worth a shout though, as it plays quite different from it's later releases. There isn't an attack button, so it plays more like a hop n bop (and bump, ala Ys) platformer. I'm sure there's more worth checking out, there's just so many PC-98 games. My folder of games right now, still zipped, is over 70GB.
