If you don't like SaGa games, they probably won't change your mind. I did, however, buy it, so I have both sitting on the Switch. I think it's awesome to see Square Enix mine their back catalog and release for us in the West, and I hope they do it with some other games (Front Mission collection, please?).

YESSSSSSSS
Seriously, though, it's surprisingly great for a cereal tie-in. I still can't believe Limited Run did a physical release. Well, actually, yes I can.

The alpha version of the System Shock remake has a free demo now available: www.gog.com/game/system_shock_demoThis is looking better than I expected. As much as I loved beating this game in its original form, I am certainly down for replaying it via its remake. Insofar as my laptop can handle the game anyway. But I'm not playing the demo, I'll buy the full deal when it releases.

I really should try to play these two titles during my 2020 MS-DOS and Windows 9x gaming year.

anayoThe original (CD-ROM) version of System Shock is an absolute mind-blowing classic. Incredibly ahead of its time, and still highly intriguing today. It's also too complex for most gamers (even during its own time). They often get lost in SS's interface and gameplay minutiae, then give up in confusion and disdain. For open-minded patient players though, the reward of System Shock's experience is absolutely worth the learning curve.

I'm glad I beat System Shock 1, but I respect it more than I liked playing it. Gameplay wise I actually liked Ultima Underworld more. System Shock 2 is more my style and era for the older immersive sims. Apparently Nightdive is working on an "enhanced" version of that one too, I think in the vein of the SS1 updated port. So it might just clean up the interface, be "patched" up and whatnot in ways. But I also think there's rumors of them giving it the full blown remake treatment as well. I don't know though, this IP has become a real nightmare to follow so I'll just keep waiting for a full game to drop at some point. www.pcgamer.com/tencent-appears-to-be-the-new-owner-of-system-shock-3-and-4-websites/

System Shock 2 is more my style and era for the older immersive sims. Considering how much you enjoy action-horror, and the fact that SS2 is action-FPS-horror, that makes sense. I super enjoyed SS2 too, but it is quite a different experience than SS1. The original SS1 is more action-adventure, and a helluva lot more cyberpunk than SS2 was.

Hmm, I guess. I wouldn't even say I liked the combat in SS2 much but I also didn't mind the respawning enemies, because you could run around them and be stealthy. On the other hand, the enemies respawned so frequently in the first game it was pretty lame after awhile, I never had time to soak in the "adventure", I'll never forget those stupid invisible slug things on the reactor floor. And I even played with the "Combat" set on its default medium level... but the high constant respawn rate was really annoying with all the backtracking you had to do, you are constantly having to fight things in the same areas repeatedly. I'd bet you 100 Nanites the monster body count for me in SS1 was probably like 5x higher than in SS2. lol
