All you GOG heads here probably already know, but Konami surprisingly dropped some classics on there today. Metal Gear (MSX) and MGS1-2 which seem to be based on their old PC ports... so kind of flawed and sounds like they need fan patches, but those seem easy to grab. Think they put up some Castlevania games too.
I would assume these are coming to Steam, but it is curious they went with GOG here initially at least. I tend to see Japanese publishers go for Steam the most.
As an MGS1 fan, I wonder if I should check out VR Missions someday. I actually don't know if I've ever played it. But I spent dozens of hours in MGS2 Substance's VR missions.

I actually didn't see it until you posted it - hadn't hit their site yet. Curious choice to bring over the old PC ports of Castlevania/Contra, as I know the emulation isn't on par with the Anniversary Collection. Really, that's what they should have done, bring over the Castlevania and Contra ones done by M2.
From what I'm reading, the Metal Gear port is very interesting. It's not a straight port of the MSX2 game, but it's also not a direct port of the PS2 version that came as part of MGS3: Subsistence. It does appear to be based on that version, though. Curious they haven't dropped Solid Snake yet; that would be a welcome release for sure.

Since it's Konami, I won't be surprised if we awkwardly never see them follow up on this, so we'll never get Solid Snake or MGS3, lol. Considering MGS1-2 had old PC versions, but not MGS3, might already be a hint of that possibility. I'm also going to keep believing the weird theories that MGS4 is so hardwired into the PS3's weird tech that porting it might be nearly impossible. That's really weird these versions of Castlevania/Contra are different than the modern collection too. Konami gonna Konami.

Konami gonna Konami. These days... yep. It's sad. I wish someone else could get their properties.

Konami gonna Konami. These days... yep. It's sad. I wish someone else could get their properties. I wondered about that more again today, with MS pulling some big moves lately. But I always forget how big Konami actually is domestically over in Japan with pachinko and general tech, I guess. So I don't know if Sony could buy them up, but maybe Konami could sell off their gaming IP's to them or someone else. I don't like these super corporations consolidating to these extremes, but frick Konami's just sitting on a bunch of IP's that deserve better. They should be revoked!

I'm 70 stars into Super Mario 64 in Super Mario 3D All Stars. This is a chill game. It's very low-pressure. I can sink as little as 5 or as many as 90 minutes in a single play session. Also I've mostly memorized it since childhood so it has a reassuring, routine quality. This is also shaping up to be one of those games I buy whenever it comes out on new hardware. I already have it on N64 and Nintendo DS, so now it can be said that I've bought it three times. I'll probably buy it again on whatever futuristic Nintendo gizmo is out a decade from now.

I'm 70 stars into Super Mario 64 in Super Mario 3D All Stars. This is a chill game. It's very low-pressure. Good to read it still holds up for you. I'm considering a replay of SM64 next month myself. I have not played through the game in its entirety since 1996. Back then, I had a good friend who owned SM64 upon release, and he was nice enough to let me beat it over a weekend at his apartment. I recall loving it, but by now I'm sure I've forgotten a whole lot of stuff. I did try replaying SM64 on DS when it first released on said handheld, but I was annoyed by the lack of proper analog control. I also have SM64 on Wii Virtual Console... I've read it has bad lag there, but I'm still willing to give it a chance that way. I can usually compensate for lag.

The source code to Mario 64 was "clean room" reconstructed by fans. Now they're porting it to everything.
Here's an MS-DOS port on real hardware running in Glide:
Here's the MS-DOS port emulated via dosbox. The graphics are software mode, which looks kinda like the Nintendo DS version to me:

That would be sick! Then I could just play my original XBOX games at higher resolutions on my PC and I wouldn't need an XBOX One X for that.
