Well, you only live once. I ordered one of those refurb NES Classic systems. I mean, that price is way cheaper than eBay, and I don't see them getting any cheaper in the future, so if I decide I don't want it anymore, I'll probably make some money off of it.
Ah, who am I kidding? It'll stay in the collection. It does bring a nice symmetry to it all now: NES/SNES/Genesis/TG-16/PSX.

Y'all should have known I wouldn't be able to hold off modding the Genesis Mini too long - at some point, my desire to throw more games on a device overrides my concern at potentially bricking it. It worked fine, though, and now I've got a ton more games on there. Interestingly enough, although I've only got around 150 MB of space to work with after throwing Genesis Plus GX on there for problem games, I mostly ran out of games I wanted to add with 100 MB still to spare. Lots of room as long as you're sticking to Genesis stuff.

Honestly Sarge, I think you enjoy hacking gaming devices as much, if not more than, you enjoy playing them.

Imagine if they made a game about hacking gaming devices. Sarge would hack it into every gaming device.

Surprising no one, I only lasted a day before hacking the NES Classic. Just too many games I want to add to it. It's definitely set up well now, with over 300 games (!) on there, with plenty of room to spare. In a lot of cases, the cover art takes up more room than the game itself.
The Nintendo emulator, kachikachi, is pretty solid, and actually not awful on lag, but in some cases, you have to use RetroArch, especially for games that have obscure mappers. In some ways, it might be better to just run FCEUmm with run-ahead set to 1. That ends up being a frame faster than Nintendo's emu, although Nintendo's is actually a bit more solid than I'd expect (better than default RetroArch).

Classic Sarge, always hacking systems and always noticing that 1 frame input difference.

Well, I like to do my research. I wish I had the equipment to do that sort of testing myself, but I also don't want to spring for it. Honestly, in most games, you won't even notice it much. Very few require that sort of precision where it makes the difference.
