lower-quality discs don't work great for anything with loading or cutscenes I recommend Taiyo Yuden media if you can find it. It's the best I've ever used.

TY works great for everything but my PC Engine Duo, ironically. Verbatim DataLife Plus works better in it, and old stock Sony discs (like early 2000s).

You know I usually don't like filtering with sprites and 2D games, but the sharpening effect with this emulator is pretty amazing. Having played Vagrant Story recently, it's crazy to see the comparisons there. Same with RE3 and the others...
The graphical flickers do get a little more noticeable with a cleaner/sharper image though, as he points out. But it's a lot of pros otherwise.

Some very bad news... Near/byuu, the talented developer of bsnes, committed suicide. The organized cyberbullying he was enduring broke his spirit. May he Rest In Peace.

I mentioned it over in the off-topic section, but indeed a really sad day for the community. I even got to help out with some testing on the Bahamut Lagoon patch this past December, and Near seemed like a legitimately nice person, although clearly someone wrestling with some mental health issues exacerbated by awful people.

clearly someone wrestling with some mental health issues exacerbated by awful people Not to blame the victim (because I don't), but I agree someone would have to already be suffering detrimental mental conditions in order for anonymous trolls to drive them to such dramatic behavior. I'm not going to say much else about this right now, I get the sense there's more to this story yet. This is awful news though, of course.

Yeah, I don't blame the victim here, either. People dealing with mental health issues can't help it. Nothing drives me up a wall faster than hearing someone say they need to "buck up" or "get over it". Yes, sometimes people bring things on themselves, but legitimate brain issues are no different than having issues with your heart or any other organ.
