That is the potential sad reality to a lot of this. Us hardcore retro gamers can be vocal about wanting the classics and more options to play them, but yeah I hear the sales numbers aren't always that great for this stuff in the end.

Development of Duckstation has stopped because Stenzek, the developer, is tired of being harassed by the lead developer of RetroArch, who seems to be jealous of Duckstation, and seeing his code used without proper crediting on that frontend.
Thankfully, Stenzek will remain active in the emulation community. He made PCSX2 compatible with Vulkan and will keep contributing more improvements to PS2 emulation. (PCSX2 is much harder to integrate into RetroArch, so he's not worried about stolen code.)

Wow, petty drama in the emulation field? Sad to hear.
Well I'll fully update Duckstation sometime this year and hopefully it'll be good enough for years to come.

I sure hope he changes his mind. Duckstation is great, and I'd like to see it completely take the crown of "best PSX emulator", if it hasn't already.
I'm always careful about accusations that fly around - no shortage of scene drama that involves bad motives or just misunderstandings, hard to tell - but I've not always heard the greatest things about the guy heading up RA. I'd like to do some more research before making a call, but it sure does seem like these things crop up a lot around RA.

I'll trust some emulation devs here: https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/s8poim/pcsx2_qt_still_needs_to_be_split_up_into_parts/htkalk1/
RetroArch not looking too good right now... But eh yeah, it's reddit and the internet. Who the heck knows.
I updated DuckStation. The reason I was hesitant is because previously it would reset all my settings, but everything stuck this time. I figure even as is it'll be good for like 99% of the games out there and my go to. Glad he got it mostly finished at least.

Wow, petty drama in the emulation field? Yeah what is this the late '90s? I'd like to see it completely take the crown of "best PSX emulator", if it hasn't already. For me it definitely has. For me RetroArch = A "jack of all trades master of none" umbrella with an awful user interface. I've never cared for it. DuckStation however I care for very much, it's one of the best emulators I've ever used period. And easily the best PS1 emulator.

The interface has changed over the years. I don't "like" it, but I don't think the interface I'm using on the PS Classic is bad. It does take some time to figure out where everything is. Exposing pretty much everything might have been the wrong way to do it, though.
I hear that Mednafen/Beetle PSX are supposedly better (i.e. more accurate), but I haven't put enough time into either to confirm.

I hear that Mednafen/Beetle PSX are supposedly better (i.e. more accurate), but I haven't put enough time into either to confirm. If 100% accuracy is your main concern, I can understand preferring something like Mednafen with Mednaffe (to avoid its native CLI), or using RetroArch to access the Beetle core. DuckStation may not always be as accurate, but it has some killer QoL features and can make 3D PS1 games look amazing compared to their original form. Also this:
