anayoI know you don't like emulators, that's why I didn't ask you about this. But your setup certainly is ideal insofar as rendering the output as intended.

anayo I know you don't like emulators, that's why I didn't ask you about this. But your setup certainly is ideal insofar as rendering the output as intended. I do like emulation that lets me play old titles on the go. On my PSP, I think I played more Sega Genesis games than actual PSP games. To this day I'd still really like a portable system that could handle Gamecube and Sega Saturn (my Nvidia Shield portable could theoretically run Sega Saturn, but it was never given Open GL support, so uoyabause doesn't work.) There are apparently handheld form factor Windows PCs that are up to the task (such as the GDP Win 2) but they cost over $600. I also like emulation that beautifies Gamecube/PS2 era games. HD on Sega Saturn/N64 era games looks unflattering to me, but games like Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX really pop at modern resolutions. One motivation for putting together my modern gaming PC was to get Dolphin emulator running.

anayo: I gots that setup myself as well. Sometimes I want to play on real hardware, sometimes I like to have save states to breeze through a game. Just depends on how I'm feeling.

My smart phone can handle Sega Saturn emulation, I just have a weird aversion to mixing business with pleasure. I'd rather have a dedicated device for it. I had a similar hangup with installing X68000 and PC-98 emulators on the computer I use for keeping in touch with people, email, studying, etc. So I jumped through a lot of hoops to get those working on an OG XBOX. I guess the point is I have a bunch of random and arbitrary preferences when it comes to emulation. My photo of my "SNES9x setup" earlier was just meant as good natured ribbing. I'm not in the business of "gatekeeping" the way anyone likes to play video games. XD Ohh yes that's a good point. I had to use save states in an emulator to practice on Mike Tyson before defeating him on a real NES.

Oh I didn't take your response as any kind of elitism. I honestly don't think a real SNES beats SNES9X, any more than SNES9X beats a real SNES. Both approaches have distinct advantages and disadvantages.

Wish I could find a list of compatible games. They say there are 70 so far. The effect looks cool, but I'm much more interested in trying out top-down games with this rather than side-scrollers since the movement is actually in 3D.
