Yeah, I'm totally cool with the generational thing, but with sub-themes that we talked about before. I really liked that "sea and skies" idea, and I also like all those ideas, toei.

I enjoyed this year's generational/double month idea. Wouldn't mind doing that again. But maybe a supplemental theme here and there on top of the double month generations could be cool too. I always had a hunch the 7th gen wouldn't get much activity (but some of you guys surprised me since I stupidly omit handhelds in my head a lot haha), and then I have my own bias... not sure I'll get in the mood again to play much 2nd gen stuff around the corner this January/February. It just is what it is for me, I'll never be too big on the 2nd gen. I think I might get more enjoyment out of the history/stories around those years than actually playing that stuff. lol
Fan translation is a fun idea. If we all for once jointly played an RPG or two, that would be fun.

So what does everyone think of a cleanup month here in January? Or a winter-themed slate to go with the 1st/2nd gen revisit? I'd love to hear some more suggestions. There's a lot that I'm tempted to jump into that sound a little better than that, though, so I wanna see what folks think!

Winter works for me, as long as we call it WINter. I'm open to other suggestions. Random idea: length-based themes. Using HLTB as a guide, we could target, say, 10-hour games, or whatever length.

I like that idea, too. Something a bit longer-form, but not a 40-hour RPG.

Not really sure I have many options for that off the top of my head. I'd have to really go digging for some games to "clean up". Sarge, I think you might be in rare company as one that can go back to 10+ year old memory cards and saves resuming an old playthrough to finish it. I either dropped out of a game for reasons or if I go a year or longer, I'd probably just restart. But maybe I'd pick back up on a longer RPG or something.
I'll try to think of some extra ideas.

Oh, I wasn't thinking about going back that far, haha! Just maybe something we started for a theme last year and didn't polish off. But then again, there might be reasons it got dropped, dunno.

Alright, we can continue the discussion with more ideas (I think we're close to having a sub-theme for every month with the suggestions), but I think I'm gonna go ahead and put up this month's theme. For the record, this is what the randomized generations look like, if we want to roll that way:
Jan-Feb: 3rd Mar-Apr: 4th May-Jun: 7th Jul-Aug: 1st/2nd Sep-Oct: 6th Nov-Dec: 5th

I remember thinking randomizing the generations could be fun and make things more spontaneous in a good way. Funny how 3rd-4th ran together though and we did Sep-Oct 6th gen this year too. But yeah I say we roll with these! Feeling the itch for some 8bit stuff myself right now.

I could always swap out, I'm not completely wedded to what the random number gods gave us, haha.
