Guardian Legend is one of their games I'd want to hit up. I was looking at their releases briefly and I already noticed at least 4 games I want to try.
Also, the Capcom connection is interesting. I had no idea Irem had been founded by the same man. He sold controlling shares of Irem in 1980, but remained as CEO for a few years; eventually things went sour between him and the new owners, so he left and turned Capcom (which he'd founded a few years earlier) into a videogame company in '83. He poached Irem's Takashi Nishiyama some time after (designer of Moon Patrol, Kung Fu Master, Street Fighter, and later Fatal Fury at SNK, producer of most SNK fighters, and founder of Dimps). There was an interview at 1UP, now only partially archived it seems, in which he explained that despite the management side of Irem, SNK and Capcom companies not liking each other, the employees were actually friends; when Irem pulled out of the videogame market in 1994 (the parent company, Nanao, revived the name in 1997), some of its developers set up a company called Nazca Corporation, which was bought out by SNK; they created the Metal Slug series. So these three companies are connected, and Irem is, in a way, Capcom's precursor, though it was also a rival later on.

I never would have known that. I'm just glad Capcom began as a videogame company from the start, unlike Konami who are much older with history in other things... so I don't suspect we'll ever see Capcom pull a disappearing act like those punks.
Metal Storm (NES) is one I've been meaning to hit up and yeah, always down for some Irem. Love that striking art style in most of their stuff.

Guardian Legend is one of their games I'd want to hit up. One of the very best NES games out there, I'm a big fan. I think it's safe to say Irem month made the cut. Since it was your idea, what available month do you want it slotted in?

Guess I needed an excuse to get back to R-Type Tactics and eventually play the sequel, too.

Might as well make it the first available month. I'm already looking forward to trying Guardian Legend.

I like the more slower and methodical approach to designating the themes per month here. I don't post much in this thread (enjoy you guys figuring it all out), but yeah it's looking nice.

So, an oddball idea I had that doesn't necessarily fit a particular theme or company, but intrigues me in some respects. We all have games that we greatly enjoyed in the past, but haven't replayed in ten, fifteen, twenty years or more. The idea of revisiting one of these titles to see if it still holds up seems intriguing to me. I know I have a ton of RPGs that I played a long time ago that maybe don't hold up in retrospect.
I think the rule I'd have on a month like that is that the game in question has only been beaten once. Nothing where you've run it more than that, so I'd have to throw out a lot of SNES RPGs (Chrono Trigger, etc.), Prince of Persia: SoT, Contra, and so on.

Sounds like Ex's kryptonite!
I'd really have to think of some old favorites I have only played once... but yeah I guess some JRPG's instantly come to mind, like Xenogears, Breath of Fire IV, etc. Now you guys know I frequent replays more than some, but I think RPG's naturally aren't the genre I go back to nearly as often as the others, for obvious reasons with them being bigger time commitments. I think FF4 or FF6 probably take the cake for ones I've replayed the most, especially with FF4 whenever it gets some new port or release... it's maybe edging out FF6 by this point. Chrono Trigger is very high up there. Secret of Mana I've hit up a lot and defend all the time but actually, I think I've only beaten it twice. I've only beaten Seiken Densetsu 3 once! But that's always the first game I get up and running on a new PC/laptop, an emulator and that rom. lol, I've probably sunk like a hundred hours into it altogether. Guess that's a weird case for me, I know it very well and have played numerous party/classic combinations, but yeah.
Also last year during my big NES mood, I did hit up some games I couldn't remember much but knew I played during my early childhood. Some stuff held up tremendously like Batman (NES) and others like Robocop 3... best left in the past, yikes.

I suspect I'd have to hit up games mostly from the PSX era forward. That's when I stopped having to replay the games I had due to having more selection.
Alternately, we could take on each other's super nostalgic, haven't played in forever games that we haven't touched ourselves. Although that might occur naturally anyway, like it did for me and Thief Gold or Quake.
