Yeah I'll probably emulate that one.

I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but gotta admit I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.
Personally, if they give me quality Mario/Zelda/Kirby, I'm certainly not upset, although I do think they need to diversify a bit more again with some of their older franchises. And the Switch has played host to two incredible Mario and Zelda games (to which I give the edge to Odyssey), and a middling Kirby game (dang it, Star Allies, why couldn't you have been as good as Triple Deluxe/Robobot?)
(Also, how did I not even put together the play on "3D" that Triple Deluxe's title was? I mean, it's punching me in the face now.)

I have my own issues with Breath of the Wild and maybe we agree on some of them. But Odyssey while fun in the moment, I thought was half baked and annoyingly easy in a lot of ways. There were so few environments after a bit that it felt weirdly lacking in content even. Kind of surprised it never got any DLC and I don't know if we'll see a direct sequel at this point.
This was extra potent with 3D World being one that completely rocked my world and had some seriously challenging worlds in the post game, then replaying Mario 64 and Galaxy last year, those blow Odyssey out of the water for me. I have fond memories of Galaxy 2 so I think it'd rank way higher too.
I'd probably take Super Mario Odyssey over Wind Waker but then again, I don't know. Anyways, long story short I'm probably just still more of a Zelda guy. Mario's always been the bonus on the side. Odyssey felt like "3D Mario Greatest Hits" while not standing out much for its own merits. It had great controls but that feels like the only major thing I can give it. Breath of the Wild was a massive change on Zelda and for the most part I think it worked. I just want real dungeons and an actual story next time.
Nintendo's got me in chains for as long as they make new Zelda's, Metroid's, and Xenoblade/Xeno-stuff.

I mean, I'm more of a Zelda guy, too, but dang if I didn't enjoy the heck out of Odyssey. And it's picking nits - I gave one a 10 and one a 9.5. I do think that Odyssey gets a little more repetitious beyond around 30 hours (I decided I didn't want to do all the Power Moons at once), but the entire experience all the way up to finishing the game proper was magical for me, just like Super Mario Galaxy was. (And 3D World, of course. All amazing games.)
Zelda I ding slightly because of my gripes, but game's got legs to it, and kept me enthralled for nearly 100 hours, so I'd say it did something right.

I don't think of Breath of the Wild as a Switch game. It began development on Wii U, and released for Wii U the same day as Switch. I think of BotW as a Wii U game that has a Switch port. Regardless of version semantics, BotW's absolutely not a Switch exclusive. I still haven't played through BotW myself, so I'll refrain from judging it. I did sample BotW very briefly in 2017 via Sarge 's own Switch. I now own BotW on Wii U. I've watched videos of Mario Odyssey, but it doesn't interest me. I'm sure it's an above average 3D platformer, but I believe 3D Mario peaked with Galaxy. I guess the sentient Mario hat is cool but Zelda already did that long before. For me Kirby games are inconsequential fluff. They are briefly fun until you finish them (quickly) and then forgotten just as readily. The sole exception is Kirby's Adventure, which is truly excellent and still hasn't been topped by decades of sequels afterwards. Anyway there are far more interesting platformers to play these days. Especially in the indie realm. I don't have much interest in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Torna. I say that because after beating the original Xenoblade Chronicles, I walked away feeling the game was considerably overrated. What I've watched on Youtube of XC2 didn't convince me it was any better designed (though it is graphically nice). Metroid Dread will likely be solid. Metroid: Samus Returns was pretty good, so Dread stands a chance of not sucking. However I won't buy a Switch just to play one game. So that's why I mentioned the emulation aspect. There are IPs that Nintendo owns I'd love to see sequels to. F-Zero immediately comes to mind. But Nintendo also owns the rights to Punch-Out!!, Endless Ocean, Hotel Dusk/Last Window, Zangeki no Reginleiv, and Sin and Punishment to name just a few. Sequels to these series would garner my interest towards buying Nintendo hardware. As opposed to ever more Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and Splatoon. It's fine though! I accept I'm not Nintendo's demographic anymore. No doubt the Switch 2 will make Nintendo loads more lucre.

Those have looked and sounded pretty cool from things I've heard. They seem a bit Monster Hunter-esque.

They are like MH, except more anime and with stronger single player narratives.

Nioh is free on Epic Games Store, for those interested. Seems like a pretty easy way to figure out if it's for you, assuming you've got a computer that will run it.
