"NetEase Games is in final negotiations to poach Yakuza and Super Monkey Ball creator Toshihiro Nagoshi from Sega, according to a Bloomberg report. The report cites people familiar with the matter who said that Nagoshi is expected to set up his own team to create new games, but has yet to sign a final contract or have his duties finalized. Chinese companies such as NetEase Games have recently been making more headway in Japan."www.gematsu.com/2021/08/bloomberg-netease-games-in-final-negotiations-to-poach-toshihiro-nagoshi-from-sega Not good, but on the other hand, maybe Sega will release more Switch games because Nagoshi believes that the Switch is a kiddie console that was not worth the same effort as the PS4/Xbox.

True, but I don't think we're going to put the realism genie back in the bottle, and many gamers' expectations are out of whack. In light of that, though, I do view this as a good thing in the long run. It may even reenable some of the AA efforts that were more common in the PS2 era.

because Nagoshi believes that the Switch is a kiddie console that was not worth the same effort as the PS4/Xbox From his perspective I don't think he's wrong. Although SEGA did produce Yakuza games for the PSP, so maybe a bit hypocritical and showing bias. many gamers' expectations are out of whack To the detriment of the medium methinks.

Nintendo hasn't been able to shake that reputation since... well, the beginning, honestly. NES was largely marketed as a toy here in the States, and the 16-bit era with the Mortal Kombat brouhaha just cemented the legacy. And I mean, honestly, they know their audience and are content to target it. Mature (well, "mature") titles have typically done poorly on Nintendo's machines.

To be fair the majority of games Nintendo first party creates look "kiddy" and appear to target kids.* For instance, Animal Crossing and Splatoon are aesthetically too childish for my tastes. So if someone were unfamiliar with playing Nintendo games, they could certainly get the wrong idea.
*I realize of course, looks can be deceiving, and the play itself tends to be universal.

Unfortunately with the level of M rating-ness of many titles, I'd rather be kiddy-fied. I've simply grown sick of it. It was one of the major deterrents of MGS5 (not that MGS was ever low on violence, just not as gruesome.)

New CEO Jim Ryan continues to look pretty stupid. Him and Hermen Hulst are nose diving this brand.
Imagine having to pay extra on PC to bump up some resolution settings. lol
