Even if you two gents end up not liking Pop Breaker, I think you'll come away agreeing it's unique at least.

I just beat GG Aleste tonight and liked it, no issues here for me. Fun little beginners shmup. I'm all about that HOMING. Had 9+ lives by the end of it. Of course the final boss was a giant flying baby face thing. Gotta love it.
My two favorite tracks:

Yeah I really liked GG Aleste, it's the sequel I didn't like. But everyone else did, so you should probably check it out too. BTW I saw the final boss as a bald woman's face, not a baby.

Yeah I guess you're right, either way, the fascination with faces for ship deck/fronts in a lot of Japanese shmups always amuses me. Is there some kind of mythical connection going on here?
Funny enough, I remember seeing that a lot in MUSHA especially, which is Compile/Aleste after all haha:
Random cool art I just stumbled on:

XeogredI'm glad you enjoyed the first GG Aleste. I'd be very interested in your opinion of its sequel. Seems like I enjoyed GG Aleste 2 quite a bit more than toei and Sarge.

What did you end up rating it? I gave it a 7.5, at any rate.

I gave GGA2 a 9/10 when I beat it back in 2017. The game averages a 86/100 on HLTB, seems most folks there like it pretty well.

I'm sure it's mostly that I don't cotton to shmups as much as some. On average, you'll find my scores quite a bit lower than the average for them.

So I did give Pop Breaker a shot last night. While I suppose one could dub it a shooter, I think it probably fits more into almost a puzzle-shooter context, and would have definitely been legit for last month. Much like, say, Adventures of Lolo, you need to plan your moves carefully, because enemies can fire very quickly and kill you outright if you're not cognizant of what's going on.

I agree, that's why earlier I said: This is a shmup/puzzle hybrid I'm glad you gave this game a try, I hope you continue further into it. The further in you go, the more complex the hazards and frenetic the enemies become.
