It's really loose with the Zenithia trilogy. There's almost nothing connecting them, so they can be enjoyed in whatever order you like. I think the first three are definitely best experienced together, though, especially if you're going in blind, because the ties between them are much, much stronger.

They do have a certain feel or flavor in common that the other DQs don't have (though they still feel like DQ), and a few vague things connecting them, but you're right that it doesn't matter too much. Although the bonus dungeon boss from the original DQ5 (the first DQ with a bonus dungeon) is straight from DQ4. You're definitely right re: the first trilogy. Each game directly expands on the previous, not just storywise, but literally; the first game is just this one continent, the second game is that continent + the rest of world (since you get the boat), the third is that whole world and another.

Yeah, that's a good way to describe it.

So, anything I need to know about Style and the Skills in DQ6? I got Hassan who can do some Jump Kick attack. Doesn't seem to use up any kind of MP or points that I can tell. And various equipment seems to change up the Style sometimes, whatever that means... I don't know yet heh.
I need my glass cannon Mage character!

If I remember right, there's a contest that you can enter and win on style points. Worthwhile to get the prize from it.

This is such a dark and cool new section in the dungeon music:

This was easily one of the tougher first bosses in a DQ. He kept constantly casting Upper, which at this point from what I've gathered you can't really do anything about when the Hero is out of MP to cast Sap to negate it. Luckily the dungeon wasn't too big, but I had to backtrack out, rest, and return making sure I had full MP. Gained a few levels along the way though so it worked out. Just got Muriel. I think the fan translation names of characters and places differ from the DS version, so that might get confusing. But she seems to be the Priest/supportive type from what I can tell.

Yeah, it's a little different from the official version we got. You got your spellcaster now, though!

DQ6 is kind of tough, as I recall. You'll have to make good use of everything at your disposal, and make sure to learn classes that are useful later. I remember the final battle in this game was just epic for me, I had to keep switching characters in and out of the caravan and I still barely made it through.
