I think it's time to beat Quake II.

The Wii game is very, very tough. Did you play with motion controls or standard controls? I think it's time to beat Quake II. Definitely a well selling highly praised classic that fits this theme. Seems to hold up pretty well even today as a frantic FPS. - I didn't play any VG yesterday, I don't think I'll be playing any VG tonight, and tomorrow I've got a business trip, so I won't be playing any VG wednesday either. However, I plan to start Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots thursday night, and continue to play it through the weekend. Yesterday I read a synopsis of the plots of MGS1-3, just to get my mind back on track with the series' plot, since it'd been so long since I finished the first three mainline "Solid" games. Now that I'm caught back up, I would not say the MGS series has a particularly well written logical plot, but it certainly has a plot only Hideo Kojima could have come up with.

Definitely standard. No way am I doing a game like that without the precision of a d-pad.

Oh, hey, so I've been multitasking with my gaming again, but at least it's just two right now! On this side, I have finished up the first mission in Deus Ex. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to play this, but I checked something in a longplay and apparently I can get tranq darts for the crossbow? Yes, please. I'll turn this mess into Metal Gear Solid something quick.

Chances are you might already have tranq darts. Check the controls, ammo switching is something weird like "I" or whatever. In your inventory menu you should be able to see what's loaded in the crossbow. You... might not like how the tranq works on enemies though, it's goofy. But if you hit them with 2-3 they go down faster, though that's using up a lot of ammo. The stun prod is pretty good too if you want to go non-lethal.

SargeIIRC there are gas mines you can stick to walls that activate off proximity. I remember they tranquilize enemies fairly quickly. But it's been a long time since I played the game, so I'm hazy. I agree with Xeogred, definitely check out the controls in the manual.

Yeah, I'll make sure to check it out. There were several ways to approach that first mission - I ended up sneaking in the back way. I wasn't sure exactly how the stealth portion would work, but it seems like it's pretty forgiving as long as you're to the sides and behind, or using darkness. This is where I wish it were set up like Thief - the light meter was very handy for gauging your concealment. Splinter Cell also does this.

Yeah, I'm not really sure if Deus Ex has any shadow / light tech, I would just stick to corners or hiding under things away from plain sight.
So does this mean you beat Liberty Island? I loved the game immediately, but I have seen tons of people over the years struggle with this level. Which IS admittedly one of the largest most open levels in the game, so I can see how it's daunting and maybe not all that inviting to some. I think the devs really wanted players to take their time in the beginning here and figure out what play style works for them. While some levels get more linear off and on along the way, Liberty Island teaches you that there's generally like three solutions to every roadblock and problem, which is Deus Ex's philosophy from start to finish.
I actually didn't know Deus Ex had a tutorial until many years later, maybe the PS2 version didn't even have it. So Liberty Island was my tutorial. Like I said, I was in love the moment I stepped into it!

Yeah, it was a bit open-ended, so it took me a bit to figure out if I was doing things "the right way". I honestly wanted to do the whole thing stealthily, but that went out the window a few times. There is some shadow/light tech, the game explicitly tells you to stick to darker areas to help avoid detection. It just doesn't give you as good an indicator of how hidden you actually are.
