SargeI tried Legendary Wings myself earlier this month, it definitely starts off unfriendly. I admire your gusto for sticking with it. Indeed Legendary Wings on the NES was only published in the USA, no Famicom version. The arcade version did have a Japanese release though, entitled Ares No Tsubasa - The Legendary Soldiers. The Japanese version has a pink bikini clad protagonist named "Michelle Heart". Edit: Interestingly enough, in the arcade flyer art, her bikini armor is red not pink:

I love how the winged barbarian warrior guy is just "Kevin Walker". Also, "Michel", as the title screen spells it, is a male name.

Ex: I actually vaguely remember reading about those changes from the Japanese version now that you posted it. Guess it wasn't cool enough for the US market. I'm trying to decide if that's pink or magenta. Probably a bit of both.

What's further interesting, is I learned today there's a version 2 of the USA arcade game, which includes the female character as in the Japanese version. It also includes Kevin Walker's original sprite, instead of the more masculine remake in the USA version 1. However, in the USA version 2, the female's outfit is green instead of pink/magenta: Anyway, I do plan to beat more games for this theme. We're only halfway through the month, there's more time yet.

I'm actually struggling for new-to-me games that I want to play. I've played a ton of Capcom's output from this era.

In the vein of busting out MAME, I think these arcade games may be of interest to you: Trojan Black Tiger Tiger RoadWillow (nothing like the NES version) Mega TwinsThree Wonders (the platformer game) If you've not already played through them.

That is the conundrum. Tiger Road is the only one I haven't beaten, so I'll give it a look.

I love Black Tiger. It used to be in a Pizza Hut I occasionally got to visit.
