I just don't see why it's so adored. I'm familiar with the tune you're talking about, and yeah, I don't get it either.

I absolutely hate the activating the pogo stick in Duck Tales. To me it turns the game from an otherwise A platformer to a solid B-. Just too irritating to me.

I have thus far finished the first stage "The Amazon" in DuckTales. I now realize why I never beat this game as a kid - it's hard. Yeah having to push down and press B at the same time, to get the pogo jump, was a dumb move. That causes issues pretty often, due to the unreliability of the pogo actually activating. Enemy hit boxes are inconsistent too, so that doesn't help. Still, I had a bit of fun finishing the first stage. I like the way the stage designs have hidden caches of diamonds... though the diamonds are used as gating, and we all know how I feel about gating in platformers. Anyway, I'll continue playing more tomorrow.

Nope. Couldn't ever afford it. I think I'll look around for a Famicom version of the game sometime, though.

Ah, I assume you're not doing much on the emulation side. That being said, if you want a legal way to play it these days, you can get it as part of the Disney Afternoon Collection. If you're not opposed to Steam, it's only $5 on there right now.
Oh, I made a run through U.N. Squadron last night. Probably took two hours, and copious save-stating on one particular stage. I'm pretty sure I could beat it legit now that I know what to do, but I'm not jumping back in right now. It really is one of the better shooters out there, and I love the whole economy of buying special weapons and new planes. I went with Greg Gates, because I'm a shmup schlub; he can take a lot more hits than the others, at the cost of slower leveling of the primary shot. Not a big deal, honestly - give me the extra survivability.
I'd probably give it an 8/10. A fine game that really appeals to me a lot more than others in the genre - other than that second-to-last boss, the game feels tough but remarkably fair as well. (Seriously, ceiling flamethrower boss is awful.)

I'd sell my Steam account if it weren't against the rules.

@opwuaioc : Well then. I say flash cart that booger or emulate. I don't have any qualms about it at this point, although I will probably pick up the Disney Collection just to have a legal copy pretty soon. I was hoping for a physical release, but I don't think that happened.

U.N. Squadron / I'm pretty sure I could beat it legit now that I know what to do I don't doubt you could. I beat U.N. Squadron legit back in 1998 after a few play sessions. I'm not exactly awesome at shmups, so it's clearly not crazy hard or anything. I agree, and your score matches what I'd give it. I think U.N. Squadron is underrated in the greater pantheon of its genre honestly. Fun stuff, and the economy/store aspect was certainly appreciated.

I think I might hit up the arcade version just to see how the SNES version differs. It's been a while since I played through it. Also, I assume I can credit-feed that one.
