Shantae and the Pirate's Curse might be their best platformer. It's good stuff, in my opinion. I think their stuff is good-to-great, but I do agree that they really have an all-timer hit on their hands.

toeiOkay then it's only Sarge who enjoyed Rogue Galaxy enough to finish it I guess. I'm not sure how Xeogred would react to it. Everybody tends to react to RG positively to begin with. But over time RG wears you down with its mediocre game design. Or at least, it did for me. I won't deny RG is a technical marvel for its platform however.

Well, speaking of Pirate's Curse, it's the low, low price of free ninety-nine at GOG right now, so no excuses! Go get it!

That's the Shantae I've played and beaten. As Easy Allies says with decent games, it was a swimming in 7's for me. I haven't been totally jumping at the bit to play more of that series, but they're probably all decent.

I liked it a lot more, but this one is the most "Metroidvania" of them. Risky's Revenge is much more Monster World in nature. To some degree, the original is as well, although it also gets quite non-linear at points, so a little Simon's Quest to boot. Half-Genie Hero does a sort of level-based thing, but you can revisit stages with new abilities.
