I agree with Xeogred, that's a run 'n' gun as I think of the concept. I also agree with you, Sarge, that Journey to Silius is overrated, with the exception of its bomb ass OST. I beat the game back in 2015 myself, thoughts were: Journey to Silius is a rather tough run 'n' gun platformer with a futuristic theme and great music. Seriously the music in this game is wonderful, some of the NES's best. A lack of extra lives, rare health restoratives, and limited ammo for your weapons aren't much help against the onslaught of aggressive robots and perilous pitfalls throughout. While the player is given unlimited continues, these continues force the player back to the beginning of the current stage each time. Thanks to tight controls, a pounding OST, and huge bosses to fight, one may find enough personal impetus to see this journey's end.

I couldn't get into Silius at all, but it has one of the best NES tracks ever (Stage 3) and as everyone said, a great OST all around.

I'll admit it didn't blow me away either. Aesthetically and musically it's on point though.

I want to believe this is toei's voice.

toei I'm gonna guess I'm a little bit younger. If I got the right guy, I watched one of his videos before and he's a OG gamer from before I was even born. But I don't mind his voice, it's cool that he doesn't have the lifeless nasal nerd voice that you hear a lot on youtube. I often see that comparison between Rolling Thunder and Elevator Action, but I never really felt it. I can see the loose Golgo 13 / Cobra influence, though. Also, the villain in Rolling Thunder 3 is clearly Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z.

I've had a few people tell me I'd sound good on radio, but I hate hate hate the sound of my own voice. That difference between how it sounds to you in your own head and how it sounds to others or recorded is real.
That being said, a lot of the recording devices probably don't grab the bass portion of my voice like they should, so... eh, maybe it's not really that bad.

This whole series looks awesome after watching that. I definitely want to play them all and maybe check out the Famicom port of the first one too. This has been an agonizing work week but hopefully I can hit these up this weekend.
Honestly when you mentioned this series the other day and I saw some of it, I did immediately wonder if it was related to Elevator Action somehow. I don't know how or why that came to mind, but I guess it's amusing to see there actually was some direct influence there apparently. I think it was just the vibe of the main character, the graphics, and doors, haha.
Surprised he didn't mention Code Name Viper though. I'll check that out too since it looks cool as well.

Sarge Same. A few people told me they like my voice before, but when I hear myself in a recording I'm like "who's this guy?" Especially on the phone, I sound like a bored teenager, not matter how much energy I put into my voice. But as you said, that kind of recording doesn't capture the full voice, so maybe it's not that bad. Xeogred I like Rolling Thunder a lot, but I have to repeat again that the original Rolling Thunder is one of the hardest games ever made. It has two loops. The first loop is very hard, but doable. The second loop changes every level significantly, so it's not just a retread, but it's so nuts that I never made it past level... 3, I think? The good thing is that individual levels are short, and you can give yourself a bunch of credits if you want. You can even skip directly to the last level of the first loop from the title screen. Rolling Thunder 2 is still hard, but it's a normal human difficulty, and the Genesis port is really good. I haven't played 3 yet, but it's said to be easier than 2. It's a Genesis original instead of an arcade port, so it was kind of console-ized. There are more weapons, longer levels, etc.

the lifeless nasal nerd voice that you hear a lot on youtube So sad, so true. I mute Youtube game videos automatically by reflex now, because I hate that particular voice so much, and it's so damned ubiquitous on the platform in gaming videos. - I was hoping to play some R&G today, but today has not been kind to my free time. Just got a lot going on in real life right now guys (not bad stuff, just busy stuff). That said, Sunset Riders and Rolling Thunder are both on my "want to play for this theme" list. They are classics I should have already beaten by now. I'm hoping over the three day weekend, I can carve some time out for some MAME lovin'.

*skims a Sunset Riders (SNES) video* Wow this music is TMNT/Konami.
*scrolls down* ... "Konami's 1993..."
Gotta love it haha. That looks awesome though and like another fun choice. I also don't know if I've ever gotten very far in Gunstar Heroes. I have to admit though, I prefer the Contra-esque aesthetic with games like this and like when the characters/sprites appear more realistic. I wonder if that's why I fall off Gunstar Heroes. I'm also going to admit, I'm not that big on Metal Slug to be honest. I've coin fed my way through most of them on the Steam ports, but I don't think I like them even half as much as Contra.
Mega Man doesn't really have that realistic edge to it at all though so maybe I'm being unfair. Either way I think I could like Gunstar Heroes if I just give it a real shot.
