I suspected as much - it's not like I haven't tried VT, anyway.
I put more time into Goemon's Great Adventure. I hit a good groove, although the lack of performance still bugs me. N64 is just going to do that, I suppose. I don't care if it's low-poly, just make it smooth, especially for 2.5D games. I do find it funny, though, that this game felt unique to me back in the day, but the only reason for that was our missing out on all the other Goemon games outside of Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
Also of note is that I've revisited the game several times over the years, but I've been stuck at Spook Village for forever. I never could figure out where I was or what I needed to do to proceed. Well, I just decided it's been long enough (and the game likely short enough) that I should just start over, and I've made some pretty blistering progress to this point.
Just because I was curious, I pulled the game off the Trinitron and put it on my HDTV using the RetroTINK 2X, and the results are really good. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but still, happy to know that purchase wasn't a misguided one (even if I wish I'd held out just a touch longer and gotten the not-yet-announced Pro).
EDIT: A bit more progress. Ryugu Castle was pretty darn tough. Don't remember if I struggled with it back in the day, but probably. I'm almost back to where I was at in my old save, too. Should be interesting to see if I can actually figure out what I'm supposed to do this time.

Man, this game doesn't mess around. I ran into a very tricky bit with Ebisumaru, right after doing a very tricky (optional) bit collecting mushrooms in one of the stages. It's going to take me a bit to hack through it. I'm guessing I was very close to the end of the stage... but I had a lot of close calls earlier, so I'm a bit worried how long I'll be stuck here.
Regardless, I got past where I was stuck. Turns out that this was one of those "read the friggin' manual" moments - Sasuke has a more powerful bomb you can use by holding the bomb button, but I didn't know that. I just thought someone would give me an upgrade. Doh. Well, whatever, I'm on track again.

Man this month has flown by, it's already the 22nd, and I've only beaten one game so far. I won't be able to play anything this weekend either (going camping). Yeah, I've got some major gaming to do next week. I want to finish Fragile Dreams and beat at least one N64 title.

Tell me about it! I mean, I didn't even get the N64 hooked up until halfway through the month... but at least I finished Boktai!
Also, I managed to take down that stage on the first try today, so onward! Gotta figure out the alternate path to the next village, though. Bet I've got enough passes to go straight to the boss of this area, though.

I haven't done much this month that counts either, been busy as well. It's been cool to see other participants in recent months though, like EasyHard, paul, etc! So there's been some more discussion in the mix lately.

I feel like N64 titles don't lend themselves to being beaten in an afternoon quite like 8 or 16-bit ones.

I think that's very true. I'm running into that right now with Goemon's Great Adventure. It's pretty darn long compared to the SNES entries! I'm having fun with it, though, even if I lament that it would have been better with gorgeous sprites instead. Such a visual downgrade.

I've beaten Goemon's Great Adventure, but I'm not quite done with it yet. I'm probably going to go ahead and 100% it before I put it away. There are aspects I liked more than Goemon 4, and some I liked less, but it was a good time regardless. Game's got some teeth to it, too, and on original hardware there's no save states to fall back on. And you will die some cheap deaths, partly (in my opinion) because of some of the imprecision in 3D, not to mention the game getting quite chuggy at times.

Yeah it's weird going back to those N64-era 3D games. I remember them being so elegant, but even Mario 64 had some clunkiness during my recent replay.
