For "RE's on a boat", I liked this one far more than Revelations 1. I liked Revelations more than Dead Aim, but that was probably due to Jill's derrière (I'm a simple man). That said, I liked Dead Aim more than Cold Fear (pretend RE on a boat). In general I enjoy RE games quite a bit though, so for me series-wise: Resident Evil > Fatal Frame > Silent Hill

What others do you have left?
It would be interesting to think about my favorite post 8/16bit franchises. RE is probably on my top 5 I bet. For ages I used to love pairing it up with Metal Gear Solid in my mind. I had a friend with a PSX in grade school who introduced me to the holy trinity of RE2, MGS1, and FF7.
Unfortunately thanks to Konami, that competition has been long dead now though... and RE is kind of winning in both quality and quantity numbers at this rate. I love MGS1-4 and Peace Walker to death, but the RE series has to be one of the ultimate comfort food's to me at this point and its current offerings have been extremely good again.
It would be a stretch for me to call Revelations bad. But if you haven't played Revelations 2 yet, you'll probably dig that one. I liked that one quite a bit. I'm an RE5 defender though, I can see how it gets a lot of slack but I think it's a pretty damn good action game and fun as heck. Having replayed it a dozen times over the years, I sometimes might even say I like it more than RE4 more now in ways.

RE games I've beaten:
Resident Evil 1 Resident Evil 1 REmake Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Resident Evil – Code: Veronica Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil 4 Resident Evil 5 Resident Evil 6 Resident Evil: Revelations Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Resident Evil 2 (2019) Resident Evil 3 (2020) Resident Evil: Dead Aim Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
That's a lot.
RE games I've not played yet:
Resident Evil: Survivor Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica Resident Evil Gaiden Resident Evil Outbreak Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (no plan to ever touch this)
I've watched some streamers have fun with Outbreak, I guess there's still a way to play them online with other people. Otherwise, they seem like a "had to be there" kind of game where they're probably not very good on their own, offline, nowadays. Who knows? I've been meaning to grab a copy someday. But yeah Gaiden and the Survivor's (mostly 1) look interesting to me. I want to try out the 3DS version of RE1 too.

Xeogred : Actually, more ninja games call. Got a few on the docket ready to go once I finish up DMC2. Busy day today, though - doing some foundation work on the house, so I'm blasted right now. Might still get it done tonight, as I'm I think at Chapter 9 of 13 total in Lucia's disc, so it's apparently shorter than Dante's, which goes 17 chapters. EDIT: Aaaaand Devil May Cry 2 is done. So, I'm going to at least try to keep this brief. Things I liked: - Stages were pretty fun overall. The game runs very smoothly, the environments, while sometimes plain, sometimes also impress. There's just enough exploration here to make it worthwhile to do so. I also like how the camera makes some areas feel more... occult? Strange? It's a nice touch. There's some good work with the environments as well, the way it pans and sweeps. It looks pretty slick. - Combat is mostly good. The only thing I didn't like was that the Stinger is slow and low range, so it feels hard to quickly close distance and keep combo meters up. Ranged weaponry is overpowered, though, no question. - For all the caterwauling about how Dante was "unlikable" in this game... eh. He just comes across as your usual serious dude, as opposed to the sort of TMNT vibe he did before. Depending on how much time has passed, this isn't unbelievable. Still, I do enjoy the ridiculous version a bit more. Things I didn't like: - There was no reason to do a Lucia and Dante disc. There's a ton of shared content between the two - I feel they could have interwoven the stories of the two and produced a much stronger product both from a gameplay and story perspective. - Bosses, as Xeogred intimated, were a weak point. Because ranged weaponry is so powerful, in most instances you can simply fire away from distance and not worry about engaging in close combat. Good from a survival standpoint, not as much for difficulty or fun. I did force myself to go melee at points, but I have issues with how the dodge roll is implemented here; it has a large windup (or more like you can't cancel out of a combo effectively), leading to cheap hits. - For what I said about the camera earlier, sometimes what looks slick and what is functional is two different things. Since environments are larger, not having any camera control often leads to you shooting stuff off-screen. It isn't the greatest feeling. The first game has camera problems, too, but since areas are much smaller, you rarely have enemies attacking you from off-screen. - The game is too easy. I think I might have had one Game Over... or actually, not even that, I just popped reset to not waste a Gold Orb and shredded that boss on the next go. I'd already figured out his attack pattern - one of the few that actually felt like you needed to observe a bit more. On balance, I still think it's a good game. But coming off of the sublime DMC, I get how Internet hyperbole kicked in and deemed it one of the worst games ever. It certainly isn't that, but it would have been incredibly disappointing. I'd probably say it took me 7-8 hours total to finish off both discs, and I don't hate my time with it, but I doubt I ever revisit it. I bequeath it a 7/10. Brief. Ha.

Guess I need to drop a recap attack, Ex-style. 156) Castlevania: The Adventure (GB) (3.5) (10/1) (0.5 hours?) 158) Akumajou Dracula (NES) (9.0) (10/4) (0.35 hours) (*) (Easy Mode) 159) Castlevania: Bloodlines (GEN) (8.5) (10/7) (1.5 hours) 162) Boktai (GBA) (8.5) (10/18) (12.5 hours) (*) 164) Goemon's Great Adventure (N64) (7.5) (10/23) (13 hours) (*) 171) Devil May Cry 2 (PS2) (7.0) (11/5) (8 hours) (*) Not too bad for this month. Some longer ones in there, including knocking out two that have been on my bucket list for a long time. (Also, seriously, y'all should try Easy Mode in Akumajou Dracula. It's ridiculously easy (and fun)!

I've never beaten a DMC, which seems weird to type now, given how many games there are in the series. I have every DMC game that released for 360 though, so quite a few. I'll get around to them eventually. I don't normally gravitate to "character action" games, especially stuff as frantic as DMC, but I think I understand what the appeal is for you and Xeogred.

You definitely have to be in the right mood for it, as they require you to really be on your A-game. It's not something I'd play to relax, that's for sure!

I've dropped Winback: Covert Operation because I'm leaving for Italy tomorrow and it'll be a while until I come back. No way I will be in the mood to continue the game from where I left it. The lack of checkpoints, coupled with some insta-kill hazards in the levels, was already testing my patience, too.
However, I am really impressed by the control scheme. It's very forward-thinking and puts to shame almost every other 3rd person shooter of that gen. Koei and Omega Force deserve a lot of praise and recognition for it. Too bad that sometimes the level designers force you to fight with no cover, a situation for which the controls don't work so well, but oh well, it was their first try at the genre.
