Dangit, yeah I get these developers mixed up haha.
In general the "hide and seek" types are very hit or miss for me. I hate to be RE Army Brad, but yeah give me some weapons here and there to take down those monsters!

candles/wax management to even see Ugh, forgot about that. Between the "hide from the boogeyman" stuff and the visibility resource management, I'm certainly remembering why I didn't care for Amnesia. The Silent Hill games and Fatal Frame games are far superior to it. The Chinese Room who also developed Dear Esther. Well they did an excellent job with Dear Esther, I loved that one. It has creepy moments so I'd recommend it, except it's not HRG compliant yet... although I could have swore it was a 2008 game. Feels like it was that long ago.

I didn't get to play anything last night. But tonight I plan to make more progress in Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth, as well as start playing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories on Wii. Additionally, I took the time to setup a decent N64 emulator on the desktop in my dorkcave, even bothered to unpack a legit N64 controller and matching USB adapter. Lastly I moved some horror games on to my DS flashcart, I hope to check out those out this month too. We'll see how it all goes.

I still need to pull out my N64, with my glorious Gamecube-style N64 controller. (Seriously, it's a modded one that takes the guts of the Gamecube replacement sticks you find all over the place, and swaps out the control board for one that gives the proper range so it's not overly twitchy.)

The Silent Hill games and Fatal Frame games are far superior to it.- ...Silent Hill: Shattered Memories on Wii. Which says a lot, when Ex wasn't that big on Silent Hill either! I still really wonder what you of all people would make of 4, since it's completely different from the first three and might be a plus for you. I'm tempted to give that new GOG version a look sometime soon, even though I replayed it just a year or two ago. I love that one though.
Now, I'm going to have some beef if you end up being one of those ardent Shattered Memories fans. All the Western developed entries just lost a lot of the magic to me. I probably only liked Origins as much as I did, simply because stylistically it plays just like 1-3, which is cool with me. But the story was pretty freaking bad and didn't help explain anything about SH1. Homecoming, like the movies, seems to believe that Silent Hill is all about shock value and gore without the substance. And Downpour had some good heart in it, with an utterly abysmal budget. It's a wild ride of strange entries after those four Team Silent games...
If you guys want some N64 recs I can maybe think of some, since I think I played a bit more of that back in the day than some here. I loved playing some Rush 2 again a year ago when I got emulation up and running. Oh and yeah, someone should hit up Bomberman 64.

I did the same thing with my N64 controller. It does make a huge difference in enjoyment of that weird ass controller. Which says a lot, when Ex wasn't that big on Silent Hill either! To be fair, I've only played two games in the series. SH1 I don't like. SH2 I gave a 7/10, which means it was decent. I am open to playing SH3 and SH4 someday. Wouldn't be the first time. No idea what I'll think. I'm going in pure neutral on it.
As far as N64 stuff goes, I'm just playing horror related games there. So there's not much to choose from anyway.

Feels like it was that long ago. Dear Esther was originally released for free in 2008 and re-released commercially after being apparently remade from the ground up in 2012. Bit too much of a walking simulator for my taste, but it did have a cool atmosphere and score. Speaking of walking simulators, I wish I could play Shattered Memories. I did beat a few horror-ish games these past few days. I got to dissect pseudo-facehuggers:

Dear Esther was originally released for free in 2008 Thank you for clarifying that! I'm not going as completely senile as I feared. Hmm, although SH:SM debuted as a Wii title, it later had PS2 and PSP ports. Does this game not emulate well in either PCSX2 or PPSSPP?

Well, for me and for most people it's one of those game that just won't work on any emulator. Dolphin, PCSX2 and PPSSPP - severe graphical glitches and slowdowns. Not playable. Hope you'll enjoy it though.

Well maybe it'll get a PC port someday. Looking forward to finding out what that screenshot you posted was from.

For an October horror game I am going to try out: But it is three discs so I am not sure how long it will take.
