Ah, never mind then. See, this is a sign that I need to play them eventually.

I only ever played Fallout solo. I got a dog a few times in various games, but the dog always dies fast.
I still need to beat The 7th Saga. I got pretty far with Lejes Rimul, but he's a poor choose to main with unless you're actually playing Elnard.

It would be challenging to do so, but pairing him with Valsu would be really good, and Esuna would be a good choice as well. I know you were going for a solo run in your last attempt, though.

Yeah I was pure solo. I still made it about 3/4ths of the way before throwing in the towel. I plan to replay the game again eventually, just with a completely different team.

I'll throw out the rec again: be ready to swap to your final partner as late as possible. They keep their Elnard stats if you do so, and it definitely helps for at least a little while. Save all your Seeds for the MC, and make sure to get the maximum amount out of them. It helps close that stat gap and reduces the amount of grinding you'll need to do.
Lux is awesome (very cheap to maintain), but I don't know what your tolerance will be to *clank* *clank* *clank* *clank*.
I want to use Wilme in a run, but his Magic stat is so low that it makes him very, very vulnerable to it.

I love the dogs in the later Fallout's, especially New Vegas with the half robot one I think? haha. They're a secondary inventory and they don't ruin the immersive lonely exploration vibes that I love with these kind of games. That generally gets completely ruined to me when another humanoid companion is around.
Still haven't touched 7th Saga yet... but I always hear a lot about it here and back on RB. lol

All this talk about Fallout having useless optional companions reminds me of Shadowrun Genesis, one of the only Western RPGs I've finished. You can hire runners to work as party members, and some of them might join for free, but I always found them annoying to have around rather than useful, so I would only hire them to rip them off (pay a guy for a single job, sell his equipment, dismiss him).

Still haven't touched 7th Saga yet... but I always hear a lot about it here and back on RB There are aspects of The 7th Saga that I like. It has a forlorn lonely atmosphere, with a foreboding aesthetic, a strong OST... it's got theme for miles. The enemy design is often unsettling as well. But man is it one unbalanced ass game. I get conflicted because I'm like, "Screw it, I'll just play Elnard." But then I'm like, "But if I play Elnard then I'm a wuss..." Ultimately it really REALLY matters a lot who you pick to play as. Certain characters are basically un-soloable in The 7th Saga. And you will spend a significant portion of the game solo before picking up a companion, regardless of who you choose to play as. But it's certainly a game worth playing, maybe not worth beating. All this talk about Fallout having useless optional companions For all the adoration I have of the Fallout games, yeah companions tend to be junk. Every time I pick one up, I end up getting rid of them soon enough (if they don't die on their own). Fallout is a series that I think is best experienced as a solo character.

Maybe 7th Saga is better with a guides for once?

XeogredNah, I didn't have a problem knowing where to go or what to do. The game has a way marker system built in, it's fairly simple to figure out where to go next. That said, I wouldn't blame anyone for using a guide to determine which character to play the game as, though. These are not balanced protagonists to say the least.
