It just never "felt" like a Sega game to me when I played it, I guess. And yeah, the licensed aspect certainly factored in. It's just something I never gave a lot of thought to.

the licensed aspect certainly factored in Does seem a rare event. The only other SEGA-related anime-tie-ins that come to mind are the Zillion games on SMS.

Nah, Sega made licensed games all the time. Other examples include Hokuto no Ken SMS (aka Black Belt), Golgo 13 SMS, Spellcaster & Mystic Defender, Osomatsu-kun on the Genesis, Rambo III, Sukeban Deka II, Rocky, and probably a bunch more.

Dang, I forgot about that one for a sec... and I just watched a video that featured it a couple months ago. Don't forget the various Astro Boy games, although the GBA game is the best of that bunch, and was Treasure doing the heavy lifting.

Yeah you're right toei, there's a lot. I know Sega made a bunch of Hatsune Miku games too.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but the game I wanted to play for this theme is Zombie Revenge. I've tried it a few times but I never got into it. It should be good in theory - it's an arcadey third-person shooter/beat-'em-up hybrid, and it was made while Sega was still in its arcade prime. But the way you hit enemies feels weird and unsatisfying. Anyway, I still want to give it another shot. But I fell back into my Tetris addiction during my vacation. Will I be able to drop it in time to play Zombie Revenge in August?

I got a little time (work is ramping up again)
Die Hard Arcade: This is pretty much the arcade game on the Saturn. Fun game, and played with my daughter who did better than expected. Fighters Megamix: If I was more into fighting games I'd probably love this. Lots of characters, but an overload of moves for me =( Magic Knight Rayearth: I popped this in for 10 minutes and it looks really good: arpg, colorful, amusing art, etc... I stopped because I can tell it would be awhile to complete.

I played through a session of Zombie Revenge, going with the Original Mode, which I assume is exclusive to the Dreamcast port. I don't know how it differs from the Arcade Mode yet, I'll look into it. It's a little better than I remembered, though maybe it's because I haven't played a beat-'em-up in a while. One thing I notice is that it's often pretty easy to dominate enemies, but once you start taking hits, you die very quickly. Anyway, it's still B or C tier by Sega arcade standards - I'd say it's the Alien Storm of its generation. I died on Stage 5. Apart from aiming better, I haven't really figured out what I need to do differently to play better. I'll try to beat it, though.

I'll be honest, I just don't much like the feel of a lot of these 3D beat-'em-ups. Sega's were better than most, but they still feel inferior to a lot of the best 2D entries.
