When it comes to gameplay alone (not plot exposition) for me Splinter Cell > Metal Gear all night every night. HOLY CHRISTMAS FISCHER
I can see how these series were compared a lot back in the day, but at this point I don't think I ever draw the comparisons in my head. I like MGS more for the variety. But if I'm in the mood for something more tactical and seriously stealthy, I can see how one would favor Splinter Cell.
Thief/Dishonored and some other stuff got me more into pure stealth over the years, so maybe I'll like Splinter Cell even more going back to it now.

if I'm in the mood for something more tactical and seriously stealthy, I can see how one would favor Splinter Cell. Exactly. And no offense man, but you were probably too young for SC when it was in its heyday. Whereas Metal Gear is batshit crazy anime world stuff, SC is the exact opposite. That is to say, I can see how MG would appeal to a younger player but SC might seem a bit dry. But for older gamers SC's more realistic scenarios can be a boon instead. Anyway, I definitely wouldn't judge the SC series based on SC1 alone. It's the roughest mechanically/technically of the bunch. Of the SC games I've beaten, I'd rate them like this best to less: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (2004) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (2006) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (2002) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction (2010) - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Essentials (2006) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist (2013) -I have not beaten these yet.

Ah, man, I really should finish that playthrough of Sam & Max, though. I put it on the Wii and got a decent ways into it. Might have lost the save, though, I honestly don't remember. Monkey Island 2 would also be a good choice.
I have weird feelings about Splinter Cell vs. Metal Gear. I enjoy MG because of the nutty stuff, but there's no denying when it comes to more realistic and well-realized stealth gameplay, Splinter Cell is where it's at. I should finish SC as well, although maybe I should shift my play to a more modern platform. I do still have my XBOX save, though. I do agree it's the roughest, from what I've briefly played of the sequels. The only one I've actually finished was Conviction, which is very different but I still really enjoyed.

Don't really know if it's an age thing to an extent. I can bet you all half a life time later, if I hit up all the Splinter Cell's now, I doubt I'll walk away from them talking about the characters/stories. I loved MGS2 then and now. Maybe I'm wrong but anytime Splinter Cell comes up over the years, it's just purely about its mechanics and Sam himself. Nothing else.
If you bump the MGS's up to their highest difficulties then they really do turn into pure stealth games too. They feel like different games per difficulty. But I appreciate the flexibility and if someone wants to mostly go guns blazing you can on Normal and below.

The only one I've actually finished was Conviction, which is very different but I still really enjoyed. Conviction was a good game, but really downplayed the stealth stuff in lieu of emphasizing the action-adventure stuff. That's why it's at the bottom of my list. It was more Nathan Drake than Solid Snake. if I hit up all the Splinter Cell's now, I doubt I'll walk away from them talking about the characters/stories Maybe not. There's only one really strong emotional thread through the SC games; Sam and his daughter's relationship. I still remember how all that went. My point is SC has better gameplay, especially Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. As someone who has beaten many MG games and many SC games, that's my opinion. From a gameplay perspective, I would put SC:PD and SC:CT on equal footing with any MG. Except it's not really equal, because SC has superior mechanics. Snake doesn't have half the parkour or stealth combat moves Sam has, and nowhere near as many cool gadgets. That doesn't mean I don't think the MG games are great. They are. But it does mean I think too many people slept on the SC series due to misconceptions of what they are.

The idea of playing Pandora Tomorrow and Max Payne back to back is hilarious and awesome to me. Think I'm liking this idea.

Yeah, definitely. Conviction was quite different from the original, and the bits I'd played of the others. I have Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory as well, but I'd like to finish the original someday.
I don't think I'll end up beating it for this theme (too difficult), but I played some Devil's Crush on PC Engine. I see why folks love it - it's a good one if pinball is your jam. I'm not good enough at it to achieve what's needed for a credit scroll, though.

Heads-up: the original Max Payne had a good port for Xbox, but PC is likely the better option because it has quick save and quick load options, which are almost a necessity to beat some parts of the game without losing your mind.

I'm not good enough at it to achieve what's needed for a credit scroll, though. Yeah, I've played quite a few pinball games (including that one) that seemed well made. But I've just never loved pinball in general. I did beat that Metroid pinball game years ago at least. I guess it's the lack of full control and highly repetitive nature that turns me off. Although for some people that process because meditative. My brother for example is crazy good at pinball games (IRL) and loves them. Heads-up: the original Max Payne had a good port for Xbox, but PC is likely the better option I agree 100%. I beat MP1 and MP2 on PC, so that's the platform I endorse them for. - I plan to finish two games for this theme. Not sure which ones yet. Thinking Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner should count. It was very well received by critics and players, and managed to sell enough copies to warrant an HD remake.

Finished The Secret of Monkey Island, Enhanced Edition (2009)
Overall the core experience and humor holds up great today. The Enhanced Edition is a great package as you can flip freely from the original to the updated art, soundtrack and voice overs on the fly. Specifically to the newer additions, I think the voices and soundtrack are very well done. Visuals, there are some areas I like the new art style as they really flesh out the environment, but the original art style is fantastic and I think a version where you could keep the art style, but bring over the voice/soundtrack from the new version would be the perfect edition. The characters really make this game and all have funny quirks. In general the puzzles of "What to do next" is great and gives you enough hinters to never feel totally lost. I don't think the middle acts are as strong as the beginning act which has a really high quality to it. Looking forward to the second game!
