Nah, I fell off wrestling in general pretty hard for like 20 years. Once WCW was bought out in 2001, the competition died for nearly two decades, WWE went PG for years, it was a drag...
Maybe those are good. I see THQ but don't think they're the Aki games. I hear most of the WWE2k games are pretty terrible.

I was a WCW kid during my brief wrestling-watching period (I'd say around 11, maybe 12?) It always seemed cooler to me. I don't know if I was even aware that it died a few years later.

I used to watch wresting when I was eight years old, back in the glory days of Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, that era of the WWE late '80s. At that time I owned two wrestling games that I often played with friends: I didn't play any other wrestling video games again, until the Rumble Roses series debuted. (Being a Simple Man™ of course I enjoyed those.) I don't a have a clue what was going on in the real world of wrestling after 1990. But I do remember seeing my (8.5 years younger) brother and a friend of his playing a wrestling game on N64 once. Maybe it was one of the ones that Xeogred likes. They certainly seemed to enjoy it. I appreciate the N64 had four player simultaneous games, including wrestling ones.

Both covers are pretty wack. But yeah that first one is terrible. I was a WCW kid during my brief wrestling-watching period (I'd say around 11, maybe 12?) It always seemed cooler to me. I don't know if I was even aware that it died a few years later. Well you probably knew of the "Monday Night Wars" at least, or the "Attitude Era". 1997 had better serious wrestling (Bret and Shawn were still going in WWF) and the NWO didn't get too bloated just yet. But 1998 was kind of the peak year of the ratings and all. At some point WCW had beaten WWF in the ratings for 83 weeks straight. But WCW's "Finger Poke of Doom" flop happened while Tony S made fun of spoiling WWF's show since they weren't live, Mankind winning the title... which actually made people turn the channel. From then on WWF started winning and just brutalized them. People left, injuries came at the worst times possible, WCW never had a sole leader behind the scenes like a Vince McMahon, so it was an insane nosedive from 1999-2001. Even as a kid I lost interest somewhere in 2000 and was fully on board with the WWF then. There's an easy 20 some years worth of content and endless stories about that stuff haha... I did tune into the final WCW Nitro back then, with a classic Sting vs Ric Flair at the end. But it was mostly a depressing show, seeing how far WCW had fallen. Shane McMahon was even on it and it was just freaking weird. WWF eventually played up some kind of "Invasion" angle with a lot of the WCW talent they carried over, but it wasn't handled well and only a few WCW stars made a name for themselves over there. They were never "Vince's guys" in the first place, so he and the WWF never really cared to give them that much to work with. Even Jericho's got tales of how tough it was his first year or two there being treated as an outsider. The NWO came back in the WWF at some point too but was a pretty trash depiction of it, again... since Vince didn't create them. I got back onboard with AEW thesedays. The first big promotion with another multi billionaire behind it. I could never get into TNA/Impact or anything else between like 2000-now. AEW's been awesome though. Over the years I've watched old WWF to completion. I've seen 1987-1999 now. I plan to go further back eventually to see Macho Man's Intercontinental title run in 1985. He's my #1, with Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart filling out my top 3. It's too bad Macho and or the WWF burned a bridge. Macho had some crazy steroids (again) facelift around 2000 and was awesome. If he had gotten another run in WWF around then with Rock, Austin, etc man it would have been killer. His mobility was really shot by then though. I know Macho's goofy at a quick glance, but this dude was 200% an insane character, one of the more humble guys behind the scenes, and technically years ahead of his time. Everyone always mentions Wrestlemania 3 with him vs Ricky Steamboat. Macho got the best out EVERYONE and his matches were so methodical, dramatic, and technically amazing. Got the best out of Ultimate Warrior, just anyone.

I love Sega but those American Master System covers were so cheap and terrible (and as Xeogred pointed out, the Japanese cover was already pretty bad) Yeah, I was watching it during the Gooooooldbeeeeerg / NWO vs Wolfpac era. I guess 1998 is exactly when it was.

Beat all of the "Championship mode" obtaining all the belts on Normal mode. Took about 6 hours give or take.
US Title - Bret Hart Cruiserweight - Chris Jericho Tag Team - Curt Hennig and Scott Hall TV Title - Scott Steiner World Champion - Macho Man
This game holds UP! An awesome wrestling/combat system that has depth and really feels like an excellent tribute to the real deal.
Time to play the ones I missed out on!

Put an hour or two into this one. It's very much WCW vs NWO Revenge with the WWF coat of paint. Sadly, the campaign/career mode totally sucks. So I'm not going to bother sticking this one out. It would have been rad to play back in the day though.
So I've put a few hours into No Mercy instead. The last of the N64 THQ/Aki Engine wrestling games and often considered the best wrestling game of all time.
I wanted Shawn Michaels, so earlier this week I endured a ONE HUNDRED MAN Rumble Royale and definitely save stated my way through that. It took 2 hours... was freaking brutal and that would have been an insane feat if some kid did this legit back in the day. No amount of skill can be enough to get you through this, you need insane luck too. After a point your character is going to be so consistently weak and beaten down... there's no healing in wrestling matches/games obviously. So later in the battle a submission, pinfall, or simple slap can knock you out of the ring and eliminate you. It was insane even with save states.
But I did it, unlocked Shawn Michaels, Andre the Giant, and someone else not that important to remember I guess haha. Now I've put about an hour into the career mode and this one is really cool, the most involved by far of the N64 games.
No Mercy feels like it was made for the hardcore fans too. On Normal, this one definitely feels way harder than Revenge. You can't slack on these matches at all.
Going for the World championship with Shawn Michaels, then I'll thin of others for the rest of the belts. I bet I'll get a good 10 hours out of this or so.

If I didn't live a retarded distance from you Xeogred, I would absolutely do tag team matches with you against AI dimes.

That'd be fun.
I realized I'm having a tough time on Easy in No Mercy, which is harder than Revenge's Normal. And there's like three higher difficulties for No Mercy.
I might call it quits after winning the world belt. The annoying match types in this one (2v1 for instance) get pretty annoying and can take like 20 minutes.
