Putting this in modern section 'cause modern games come up. So tonight I played passed 100 hours in Red Dead Redemption 2 (wouldn't be surprised if I put 100 more in it!), which got me reminiscing about other games I've sunk that much time into. Actually not too many: Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (115 hours) Fallout: New Vegas - Ultimate Edition (117 hours) Final Fantasy XII (109 hours) Red Dead Redemption 2 (101.5 hours thus far) That's only four games in forty years of gaming. Not a common scenario for me. In my list the only one I regret is Etrian Odyssey Untold. If I had played that game like 95% of players do - on standard/picnic difficult with a strategy guide - I'd have had it knocked out in 47 hours (HLTB average). But I beat that game on expert with no guides, so yeah took a while. I won't do Untold 2 on expert, life's too short for grinding vicious mobs and railing against brickwall bosses.
But what about you, have you ever put over 100 hours into a single video game(s)? Do you regret any of it? Or was every hour worth it?

Dragon Warrior 7 - I did the bonus dungeon and everything... I don't really remember how long I put into it, but I think it was around 120 hours. I've replayed Phantasy Star IV so many times that I definitely put over 100 hours into it in total. I can't say I regret either because if I do, I'm going to have to regret many other ways in which I've wasted time and I don't have time for that. I replayed PSIV a bunch because it was one of the only RPGs I owned (plus I loved it), and DW7 is, as everyone knows, a long ass game, and not one of the best DQs, but it's still DQ, so it's still pretty good.

Replays of old RPG's would be interesting. I've probably put triple digits worth into Chrono Trigger, FF6, FF7, perhaps Seiken Densetsu 3, maybe FF4, Super Mario RPG, etc heh.
But yeah for some modern games that love to be long, I'm going to break these up some:
Nioh 2: Complete Edition - (121h 50m) - this was for all the trophies and the 4 DLC's. People can put 10x more into Nioh since they have Diablo styled NG++++...
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - (121h 25m) Fallout 4 - (107h 15m) - even though it's not my favorite, I really enjoyed the gameplay and got the platinum trophy. Did a lot Elden Ring - (100h 1m)
100% runs, I will still count for some of these because it's still me playing them straight through without break:
Elden Ring - (178h) Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - (156h 26m) Dark Souls III - (106h 11m) - My notes say NG++ for all the trophies, so that's ~3 playthroughs
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin - (103h 30m) - Think this took NG+++ or so
So I actually consider Xenoblade 3 the champion and it'll probably be immortal until another Xenoblade possibly challenges that. That is 156 hours on one single playthrough doing everything possible except for maxing out job levels and some grinding.
Elden Ring is unique in another way, that is a combined total of TWO full thorough playthroughs back to back, another insane feat. So comparing my first 100h run, XB3's 121h to roll credits (before doing everything else) has it beat there. But to play a monstrous game like Elden Ring twice over at release should be a testament to how much Souls games are gaming crack to me. And I still replay them and look forward to hitting up DS2-DS3 again next. Ah yeah back to replays, I'm sure I've put 100+ into Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne now too.
My list would be longer with ~70 hour games included. That's typically my threshold of either A) This game is truly amazing and surprises me, or B) it's time to wrap this up.
I'm guessing most of us here favor games with a beginning, middle, and end. Rather than play MMO's forever or multiplayer stuff.

Another loosely related thing I thought of is when I replayed all of the Mass Effect trilogy with every main story DLC, in summer of 2019. That clocked in to about 103 hours total. I did that with Halo early last year before Infinite or something. Then more recently the Metroid Prime trilogy. I only recommend such things to a madman. But then again my old roommate and some people I hear on podcasts, seem to love this sort of thing lol. It is a really cool feeling and epic payoff doing a full series/trilogy run back to back, but can test your patience. Much easier to do with 8/16bit games though.
I own the Legacy Edition of Mass Effect (Trilogy) now. So it'll happen again someday. Think I'll finally do a full FemShep trilogy playthrough and maybe do more Biotic builds.

I don't think I have 100+ hours in any modern game. The closest I think I've come would be if you add up Xenoblade 2 and Torna, which is a touch over 100 hours for me.

I figured this JRPG would come up. I'm glad the 3DS remake did some streamlining, that's the version I'll go for. I can certainly see how you can end up with 100+ hours invested when going for platinum trophies in large modern games. Adding the HLTB main game times for those two comes up to about 90 hours, so yeah sounds like it's easy to hit 100 hours cumulatively with those two combined. Speaking of Xenoblade, do you plan to get back to XB3 this year, or did it end up being a dud for you?

I'm sure I'll get back to it, but I really haven't had the time to sink into a super long game as of now. Real life plus me not heavily prioritizing gaming, or more like having too many things to mess around with, splitting my attention and not diving into any with depth. Steam Deck, Analogue Pocket, Genesis Mini 2, etc. I did actually finish a game, though - Gelatinous: Humanity Lost, a Game Boy game that I backed on Kickstarter and got in about a month ago.
Anyway, to be honest, fiddling with getting new stuff working is almost as fun for me at times, so I can't complain too much. I've also slowly been sorting the stuff in the game room.

Gelatinous looks fun.
Yeah you do love your tinkering. I still think you should do your own retro gaming hardware channel man. I'm sure your channel would be at the very least as good as anyone else's, likely better given how long you've been in the game and your technical background.

I was actually thinking the other day, maybe I should actually design a piece of hardware or something for a retro system. I know, for instance, that there really isn't a good solution out there for the SNES mouse - wonder what it would take to do some sort of general-purpose adapter for any old optical mouse? I'm super rusty on the microcontroller side of things, though. (Yeah, Hyperkin mouse exists but has problems in a few games.)

Yes do that as a warm up, then do a portable PS2. I'll buy one!
