Also worth pointing out that Dolphin is an amazing emulator. It's modern in all the right ways like DuckStation.

Funny thing is I have good reflexes in real life, and good reaction time in action games. But this weird thing happens with QTEs where it's like I suddenly don't know where the buttons are and I need to consciously think about the input, so it ends up taking too long. I can't just react instinctively in a QTE situation. I played through the entirety of Shenmue and Shenmue 2 and never got good at it. Though I think emulation probably added some input lag that made the latter a lot worse (it doesn't matter too much if you fail at them in the first). I messed up half the time during the QTE sequences in Berserk just recently - they always want you to press a different button than last time, with no apparent logic. If I've internalized that Triangle + back or side is my dodge move and a threat shows up suddenly, I'm not going to press X just because the QTE says so.

Oh man, I forgot it was probably the Shenmue games that popularized the idea alongside RE4, hah. I don't think they're too annoying in RE4, it's a lot of two buttons at once, and rapid firing one. This is something they basically removed entirely from the new RE4 remake and nothing of value was lost. I don't hate QTE's but don't need them either. Definitely a weird novelty of the 2000's. Even weirder? The pressure sensitive tech of the PS2. Metal Gear Solid 2 made cool use of it and... that's a wrap I guess.
It could be a blessing you're not a modern gamer, since the face buttons are at different locations across Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation controllers. The X button being the most joked about one probably. Some older Steam games don't always accurately detect the right controller too, so you might get Xbox prompts with a different controller, nasty heh.

The later RE games are the only video games where QTEs didn't annoy me. How can anyone not love this

Love it.
You should play FromSoftware's Ninja Blade though. It's like their take on a weird Ninja Gaiden, but the QTE's are SO over the top you'll fail them from laughing and not being able to focus. Least that's how it went down for me in a lot of them.
Asura's Wrath is also QTE the game, but backed by a fantastic story/style. Its utterly bizarre blend of like Hindu/Buddhism sci-fi is such an amazing vibe too, I need more of that in my life.
Dang, Asura's Wrath is 2012 and legal Retro talk. So everyone must play it now!!!

I'll second the Asura's Wrath love, outside of having to buy DLC to finish out the game's story for real. But dang if it wasn't worth it. Game is absolutely bonkers.
QTEs are tricky - sometimes I'm good at them, sometimes I'm not. It takes me a bit to really get into the groove, and I think a lot of my issue is often the whole "X/Y/A/B" and whatever Sony's doing is different on every system.

XeogredI've got both of those on 360. Isn't Asura's Wrath the one where Capcom walled off the ending behind paid DLC? Edit: Ninja'd by Sarge but he answered my question. That crap was crap.

Yeah, I think it's like literally "Episode 4" that's DLC or something. So worth it though, it's insane. Thing is, can one even buy the DLC now? I seriously don't know.
I remember Prince of Persia 2008 pulled this crap too.
I think the most obnoxious implementation of QTE's to me would be when the joysticks are involved. I can't think of specifics, but I know some games out there will make you have to frantically spin the joysticks around in circles or stupid stuff like that, ugh lol.

Yeah I've disliked spinning analog sticks since Mario Party first did it. Or at least that was the first game I saw use that idea. Wanna know the easiest way to destroy your analog sticks?

Especially the N64 sticks. I think the sequels did away with those, though. Probably too many complaints!
