It was the mid 90's. Some major game publisher like Electronic Arts got the license to a popular MS-DOS first person shooter everyone was talking about. Then they somehow ported it to the Sega Genesis. Aside from the frame rate and resolution being really low, it was a mostly faithful port to the DOS version. To me the game felt like Zero Tolerance, but even more impressive. Then they made it a Blockbuster exclusive and sent lots of copies to all the Blockbusters where they were to prominently show them on the shelf to get people talking about it. I went to my nearby Blockbuster and rented a copy on a Friday. I was looking forward to playing it throughout the weekend.

I dreamed I was playing a game called Judge, Jury & Executioner. You would hunt down and sometimes fight a suspect in an action sequence, then have a trial that would start with just you and them. They would tell you their story - whether they pled not guilty, or claimed extenuating circumstances - and you decided whether they were guilty or not, and what sentence, up to the death penalty, was to be carried out. Sometimes, subsequent events might prove that you had been either right or wrong. If you were found to be executing people without a reasonable motive, you would be accused of Abuse of Jury Duty, and could be sentenced to death yourself. I didn't actually see that much of the game in the dream, though; I was just starting to play it and knew that's what it was about.

I'm imagining this as a high-concept FMV game from the 90s aiming to create an all-new genre. Maybe like "Who Shot Johnny Rock?", but more ambitious.

I was hanging out at a friend's place. He was playing a port of Virtua Racing on a modern console. The cars looked the same, however there was one major difference - before every track, you controlled the pilot, on foot, a few seconds away from the track, and a group of thugs would rush you. You could simply run up to your car and start the race, at which point it would play like the Virtua Racing I knew - there was even a button you could hold to just fast forward that part and get straight to racing - but you could also fight them, beat-'em-up style, outside of the track, and there was also a surprisingly large area outside each track where you could walk around. This was entirely optional and didn't change anything to the racing section, AFAIK. In the dream, this wasn't supposed to be an addition to some remake - instead, I just thought they must have cut that from the ports I'd played, as after all, I don't think I've ever played the arcade original much. It reminded me of how you could walk around the levels with full 3D movement in Nights: Into Dreams as Elliot and Claire. The brawler action and graphics were way too advanced for 1992, though, looking more like SpikeOut, but less gamey.
Later on, again last night, I dreamed I was playing Virtua Racing 2, but it was an action-adventure / open-world game where you would ride around a full 3D world in the VR car. Every now and then enemies would chase you, and the racing aspect was in escaping them. The car was still the iconic low-poly 1992 model, but the environments looked hyper-realistic. The part I was in was mostly nature, with trees and no road. There was no text or dialogue and the goal was unclear.

Last night I dreamed about a video game that doesn't exist. It was part of a longer dream, but I just happened to beat this game in the dream. I don't remember what console it was on, but the game was basically a Valkyrie Profile ripoff with 2D graphics highly reminiscent of Irem's gritty early '90s arcade style. (I mean graphics like Undercover Cops and Gun Force II.) I remember the enemies in this RPG were very monstrous and undead. Also when I beat the game I remember thinking I needed to come review it on HRG. That's about all I recall.
