Anayo and I have a habit of watching some terrible movies together. Recently during his visit we watched Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. Or, Star Crap as he called it (he was not wrong). Anyway, I'm wondering if there's much appreciation for games that are poorly constructed in a way that is nonetheless amusing to play. Maybe not to beat, but worth having in your collection for laughs. I want to dig deeper than Shaq Fu or Superman 64 though. One example that comes to mind is Harley's Humongous Adventure Apparently you need to be the size of a bug to ride a tank? I mean, doesn't everyone keep a jar of poison in the garage? Someone else captioned this for me, and yeah... Now if I'm being honest I didn't get far with this one, it was a gag gift for my younger brother (the year before I'd given him a SNES and managed to collect at least 2 out of 3 DKCs, maybe all three, it's been a minute) but we most definitely got a laugh from it. I can't really explain why we found it so amusing, all of the factors are decidedly mediocre, the music is lazily put together, the controls are just off somehow, and the graphics are a weird mash up of occasionally pixels, occasionally claymation, and what look like very early Windows icons. Anyway, even if he's never touched it again, I'm still glad, inexplicably, that I know this game exists and I'm glad it's in his collection forever now. Anyone have a similarly odd bird to talk about?

Stretch Panic for the ps2 was the weird game for me growing up. I rarely was able to actually go buy games at this point, since I wasn't working yet, and thus usually carefully picked what I would get (FFX, MGS2, DMC, etc), but I intentionally went out of my way to go buy this game. I was 13 upon its release, so I guess the appeal was obvious, but I wasn't quite sure how weird of a game I was getting into. For some reason, even though the game didn't provide the, umm, titalation that I expected, I ended up having an absolute blast with this game. Its the first time I remember laughing at the absurdity of a game whilst simultaneously enjoying the hell out of it. Its a simple premise done in a simple manner, but its presentation is just ridiculous, and I never matured past the point of being entertained every time I got a good grab on a bob and slapped it around like wild until the enemy perished.

I remember renting Harley's Humongous Adventure as a kid in the '90s, I thought it was terrible. I remember being very disappointed that I was stuck with it for a weekend. The game did have some idiosyncratic graphics at least. Another SNES game kind of like this you might want to try out is Lester the Unlikely: - I've own a copy of Stretch Panic for years upon years. Never played it though. I know you guys get tired of me saying that, but it's story of my life man. It's far easier to collect games than it is to find time to play them all. - My contribution for "weird but so bad it's good" is: Oh my god do I love this crazy thing. There is no such thing as a more Japanese game than Super Galdelic Hour. Imagine if the Teletubbies were instead sexy girls on a goofy game show. Yes. You pick a girl, you combat other girls through a series of insane mini-games. You're also on a TV show. It's terrible. It's awesome. It's 100% unfiltered Japan.

I own a copy of Mary Kate and Ashley: Winner's Circle for the Playstation. Oh dear. I'm actually trying to decide if I have any games that fit into that category. I'm sure if I had kids I'd have all sorts of dubious-quality titles. I do own the obvious Shaq Fu, but that game isn't quite as bad as its reputation. Certainly a step above stuff like Rise of the Robots. I am reminded, though, that I had (and willingly re-obtained!) this awful game:

Wow. I had no idea that Pamela Anderson game existed until now, but I've got to try it. For me, the game that always cracks me up is Earnest Evans. Basically the concept is each of the character's limbs is a different sprite, which is probably supposed to result in more complex / realistic movement, but it's horribly executed and it feels like controlling a broken ragdoll. Here's a video, but it's a lot more fun to actually play, at least for 5 minutes. I'd hate having to try to actually beat it. It's a sort of sequel to El Viento.

I don't think this is the only game that she managed to put under her bra, er I mean belt, it's just the only one I own. Anyway when I was looking for that image, I saw something for the PS2 though that could have been a re-release (I didn't dig deeper because I'm often posting from work and I don't want to have that conversation with my superiors).

There was also a GBA version of VIP. Needless to say, the sprite focuses a lot on certain assets...

There was also a GBA version of VIP. Needless to say, the sprite focuses a lot on certain assets... I feel like someone who worked on Tomb Raider was tired of being told "No real woman in the world looks like that," and he watched an episode of Baywatch and thought "AHA!I'll show them!"
