Thanks for posting this. When I saw Matt Alt was the interviewer, I got excited. Matt does great work in all his endeavors over in Japan. Anyway, very fascinating interview. Especially this part I didn't expect: "Uemura: Super Mario Bros. isn’t set in Japan, but the character’s Japanese. The name Mario sounds Italian, but he isn’t Italian."
But ol' Shiggy said:

A while ago I mentioned here that when I was a small child, I imagined that the CPU characters in games were actually being controlled by people hidden away in things like city mailboxes. Well, it turns out something pretty close to that actually happened. From this 2010 Iwata asks about the Game & Watch series:
"Izushi: It was our role to hide under a big box and play the game.
Iwata: You played the game under a box? (laughs)
Izushi: Yes. We hid under a box and played the game, which was connected by a cable. The top of the box was lit up and a Game & Watch system was there, so it looked like the celebrity star of the commercial was playing it. The shoot lasted a long time. I remember how everything seemed so bright when I came out of the box!"
I don't know why it was considered simpler to rig this whole thing up than to give the actor 10 minutes to learn how to play the games, but yeah.

Sarge mentioned it too, here: hardcoreretrogaming.boards.net/post/30355/threadIt's definitely a very interesting LEGO set. I have to assume it's meant to appeal to an older demographic, one say who grew up with LEGO and NES. There is definitely a nostalgic inner child in me that thinks this set is appealing. It's clearly meant to be built and then displayed, on say an entertainment center. Although the actuation lever is a surprise, looks like you can animate the scene diorama after it's built. Edit: Okay, I watched the actual video, yeah the lever does exactly what I assumed it did. Although I didn't know you could plop the other Mario figure on top to provide sound effects. Pretty clever stuff. I bet this will sell well to retro gamers who enjoy decorative plastic.

One of the best Thief levels... however, I do NOT remember the Honey I Shrunk the Kids section. Was that only on the highest difficulty or what? I think only Tsumuri played this on max difficulty, not sure about Ex and Sarge.

Did you play Thief Gold? That entire section of The Sword wasn't there in the original game. It's also possible you played through the level and missed it, since it's completely optional. It's cool, but it's not like that level needs more crazy stuff.
