Dang, you're not kidding. A bunch of great games at an excellent price. I own most of those, and I'm positive I paid a lot more than $200 for them...

It's a collection, y'all, not a backlog. A library. I don't fret about my unread books (much), and I've gotten better about not viewing games as a backlog, either. It just gives lots and lots and lots of options.
That's what I tell myself, anyway. Don't judge me.

I trade a lot with other retro gamers. Even if I don't personally play all of these I can swap them to someone for something I will play. Sometimes I've also sold gaming stuff I don't use in order fund other stuff I'm more interested in, like when I sold my Sega Nomad to raise money for a Turbo Grafx 16. That way the hobby pays for itself somewhat, since if I just went on eBay and bought every whim that jumped into my head I'd end up with a video game hangover.

Nice read Ex. I was just poking fun of course, nor do I think anyone here is upset haha.
Right now, my physical backlog is about ~26 games I believe, which is probably insanely small compared to some. This isn't including some DS stuff I didn't really touch and have boxed away though and there's maybe some other games I have somewhere else or forgot about. But these ~26 are on my second little shelf for my backlog. It's always nice to have a backlog, or untouched library as some of you might want to call it. You never know when the mood will strike and how things turn out. For me though, I do like to keep it minimized and controlled if possible. Somewhat related, but this year I'm hoping to finally catch up on my anime backlog, I got obsessed with downloading dozens of shows over the last decade and I am still working on watching some of them. About to check off one main folder of three that each have a few shows in them. I think this anime backlog has been over my head a bit, there's some stuff that got subbed over the years that I've wanted to watch forever now (like Ashita no Joe 1-2), and maybe some new stuff coming out that might interest me more than what I have downloaded. But things get a little crazy when there's a bit chaos in organizing things. I've re-re-reviewed a lot of shows over the years and deleted things along the way that looked like a waste of time, but it's feeling really good to finally almost polish this off and I'm getting this interesting second wind for anime recently.
Digital games, I don't value nearly as much. I have probably double my physical library for Steam alone and then a big chunk on GOG I haven't touched.
For me, it's very rewarding trying to be organized with it all and checking things off... like I did with my PSX collection recently (still going to give Threads of Fate another go). It's like finally finishing up some chapter of... life? At the same time, it's not the end of PSX gaming for me at all or anything. Games are so easily available and accessible now but finances are limited. So you can bet that my Amazon wishlist is a mile long. I never feel the urge to splurge much thesedays anymore, I try to order stuff when I think I'm in the mood for it and try to plan to play it within the year or whatever. Doesn't always work out and I'm not losing sleep over that though. Ultimately I don't want to sound like any of this stresses me out much or I think less of anyone with huge collections, definitely not the case. They're a lot of silly arbitrary goals in my own mind. But I'm also learning with age the less you're in control and more free you are, the more fun life is. Go with the flow!

Oh snap, you have a blog? I know what I'll be reading now. I had a blog. I stopped writing in it four years ago. There's still a fair amount of entries to read, but I think a lot of the hotlinked pictures no longer work. Right now, my physical backlog is about ~26 games I believe, which is probably insanely small compared to some. That's totally doable man. My physical as-yet-unplayed-titles is in the hundreds. That includes; Wii, 3DS, GameCube, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, PC, and Vita titles. I used to have a lot more but I sold off physical games I could easily emulate. This collection comes from years of having more free money then I did free time. And if you include my legit digital titles (GOG, WiiWare, 3DS eShop, Android, stuff like that), I'm probably sitting at a thousand as-yet-unplayed-titles. Funny (dumb?) thing is; half the time I'm gaming, I'm playing an emulated ROM or ISO, or some other pirated digital game (like DS or PSP or retro PC). So that certainly doesn't help whittle down the library. (Keep in mind for all the pirating I do, I've spent a small fortune on legitimate video game hardware and software, and continue to do so regularly.) I pretty much just play whatever I feel like playing without a set regiment. Except in regards to the new TR format (which only started this year), wherein I try to played themed games for each month's TR. Sometimes "whatever I feel like playing" is dictated by how much actual free real life time I have to do so. If I'm very stressed with real life responsibilities and erratic free time segments, I tend to gravitate to handhelds and mobile games. Stuff that's easy to pick up and put down, making progress in short amounts of time. However when real life is going more smoothly, and I have larger segments of regular free time, that's when I get hot and heavy into console and PC gaming. Lately my free time has been in the random/stressed category, hence I'm playing DS games presently. Anyway guys, think of your video game collection as a library! Calling it a "backlog" has always seemed strange to me. A "backlog" to me is a pile of work you haven't finished yet. If video games are work for you, it's time to find a new hobby. EDIT: Right there with you man. I've got terabytes of anime I haven't watched yet. I've been trying get back into that hobby myself. Trying to watch at least one episode a night before I go to bed. I bought a little handheld video player specifically for that purpose, and it works great. (Although a tablet could work too I suppose.) I've been working my way through Parasyte, I like it! But yeah, I'm trying to catch a second wind also. I was big into anime TV series during 2007-2010, I'd like to get back into that hobby again. It's very rewarding. The thing is, the time I used to spend watching anime shows, now gets used instead to watch non-anime shows with my wife. She doesn't like anime at all. But she does like dark sci-fi/fantasy stuff so it's still a win.

Calling it a "backlog" has always seemed strange to me. A "backlog" to me is a pile of work you haven't finished yet. If video games are work for you, it's time to find a new hobby. Yeah I can see how real life dictates a current taste or mood for certain types of games. On work nights I definitely prefer something I can quickly jump in and out of within an hour or two, which we all know isn't always too easy with many games. When I'm stressed I think I gravitate towards some easier stuff sometimes, since the last thing you want is even more stress haha. On the flip side it's always rewarding conquering some hard games and challenges. I noticed a little guilt myself when it comes to emulating stuff vs hitting up the real physical games I have sometimes for sure, haha. Need to get over that. I never worry about others' habits or how long it takes a friend to finish something, etc, I always love to say it's never a race. But I should take my own advice sometimes! I like that second point a lot. Never really saw it spelled out like that but it makes perfect sense. With anime I think there was a more real anxiety of sorts due to HDD space and how disorganized I can be with some of it and I hit the storage space wall a lot over the years. Right now my three big main anime to watch folders of shows are spread out across multiple drives. But I built my current rig in 2013 and two years back finally got a 6TB WD Black, with another 6TB WD that was already in there, then my awesome external 2TB WD, and another 1TB internal for programs (then I have the OS on a SSD). So finally... after a decade or so of watching anime and hoarding files of various natures, I made sure I never have to worry about space for the foreseeable future. I even have a bunch of giant modern games I can easily keep installed via Steam and whatnot if I want. I've even started backing up some movies and ripping things. No sweat! I'm hoping by the time if it ever becomes an issue again, we'll have crazy stuff like affordable 10TB microSD cards for storage or something. Seems very possible. I've also gotten into Asian drama in the recent years, the historical/medieval genres are incredible (think live action Suikoden!), Korean drama and China drama. But I think I prefer to just stream this stuff since streaming has come a long way, though I still try to avoid signing up for any service or site. I don't value movies a ton either unless it's a major favorite, my movie collection is hilariously dinky. But for whatever reason I still like downloading and archiving anime, maybe even moreso than owning the damn stuff haha. It's fun to take screencaps and just have access to all of instantly if needed.
