I remember EarthSiege and its sequel. Actually still got 'em in a drawer. The bro played through both, although he thought MW2 was better.
Oh, dang, while we're talking about "mech" games... let's roll with One Must Fall 2097. Might be slightly cheating, but man, that's a great one-on-one fighter.
I saw your mention of Frame Gride. I have it, burned and all, but haven't gotten around to giving it a play. The last time I booted it, it was not very long after its original release, so I remember almost nothing.

One Must Fall 2097. Might be slightly cheating, but man, that's a great one-on-one fighter. Yeah the game claimed those were remotely controlled robots, not mechs. (Human Assisted Robots are piloted through a physical and mental link to the human pilots.) Did you enjoy One Must Fall: Battlegrounds?

Oh, right, I forget that they were remotely piloted. So they're just robots, not mechs. I didn't play Battlegrounds; I think it completely changed the style of play, and I never could find it when I was younger, anyway.

The old Total Annihilation games were a goodie for an RTS fix. Starcraft was my love but TA was my second favorite with a lot of unique things around it. To be honest though, I recall all the story modes for them being dreadfully uninteresting, so it was all about free skirmish modes and multiplayer. I don't even know if humans exist in the TA world and it's just all robots haha. Jeremy Soule also did the music which I love bringing up a lot around here, he went very John Williams with this score especially. The game had a huge custom units fandom back in the day, most looked terrible and ameteurish, but some were cool. Either way the base game has way more units and weirder ideas, for better or worse, compared to some other RTS's at the time. Maybe it's not as refined but I had a lot of fun with TA and it left a mark.
One of my favorite features was the unique Commander unit. Your first builder, though they can also be a good fighter or used as a severe sacrifice that blows up like a nuke taking out tons of stuff with it. There were modes to play where a Commander's death was the winning goal, or you could disable that and keep playing without them.
Supposedly my dad just found the discs or was given the game from someone at an old job he had once back in the day. It's amusing how disposable some people treated PC games and discs back then.

Total Annihilation is an absolute classic. I never put much time into it, but (surprise, surprise!) my brother did. I still remember him nearly bringing our computer to its knees with squadrons of Brawler jets that would wreak havoc on the enemy. And that soundtrack really is spectacular. I have it in my music rotation. I certainly heard a lot of it while he was playing!

Or it was so absurdly high, this game was a surefire way to melt your PC if you played really long skirmishes.

Hoo, buddy, that frame rate became a slide show. It was actually kinda impressive to watch!

Game mags use to rave on about Virtual On back in the day, but I never got to play it with the proper set-up (ie the Twin Sticks). Any fans here?

ExLast Legion UX's poster looks so cool that I looked up N64 Glenn Plant's video review for it, It doesn't look like it's my cup of tea. Just about the only "run around in a small 3D arena and kill each other" game I love is Power Stone.
