I can't talk about it, but the recent God of War absolutely fit the bill. I wasn't expecting that going in at all.
Q: This one's gonna be really subjective, but which is your favorite: Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World?

A: I answered that one a bit elaborately in this failed thread: hardcoreretrogaming.boards.net/post/7831/threadAsk me again in 10 years, I might say SMB3 again! It's a good problem to have trying to decide between those two legendary classics, but since I binged a bunch of Mario games again somewhere around 2014, I walked away liking SMW a bit more. Yoshi's Island I've also always loved and that one just blew my face off when I revisited it a few years ago, it had been a long time since I played that one to completion. Yoshi's Island is a lot like Kirby's Adventure to me, no sequel since then has been even a fraction of their awesomeness and is rather disappointing. Q: You're stuck on an island and can only bring one system and three games with you to play for the rest of your life! Running on Element Coconut Tree electricity. So what's the console/games?

A: No offense, but I hate those desert island questions! For me gaming is all about playing through new games all the time. I don't enjoy replaying stuff all that much, so any three games, no matter how good, would do little for me for the rest of my life. But I'll cheat: the console would be one of those emulation boxes, and the three games would all be compilations with a ton of games on them. Or if I try to give a more legit answer, one of them would be a VS fighter that's hard to master and that has good AI, so that I have something I can improve at over time. So probably a Virtua Fighter game. I guess 4 would be a good candidate, since I haven't played it a ton. And then for the other two, I don't know. MMOs? Lol. Q: If you were stuck on a desert island with three controllers and no consoles to use them with... ok, real question: if your life had to be like a video game genre, which one would you want it to be?

It was a lame cliche' question but I was hoping for no lame cheating answers or anything either.

which is your favorite: Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World? SMW > SM3 SM3 is good fun, but those airships sure get repetitive fast. SMW has more stage variety and larger levels. Q: You're stuck on an island and can only bring one system and three games with you to play for the rest of your life! I'd want games that had extremely high replayability, with the possibility of being a unique experience every play. So that'd have to be a PC with Dwarf Fortress, NetHack, and Dungeon Hack. if your life had to be like a video game genre, which one would you want it to be? A hentai visual novel. - So why don't you like flight simulators?

A: Cause I've never played them, and I've never played them because they're not attractive to me. They sound dry and complicated. I don't really like any kind of simulation game. I don't really like any of the genres I associate with old-school PC gaming, either. RTS, WRPGs, FPS... I've tried a number of them. They bore me.
Q: What standalone game or short-lived series do you wish had made it to Mega Man numbers of sequels and spin-offs?

Q: What standalone game or short-lived series do you wish had made it to Mega Man numbers of sequels and spin-offs? Pilotwings. The SNES version is pure bliss. The N64 sequel was kinda ass. The 3DS sequel is "OK", but half baked. I would have liked to see a lot more series entries in the vein of the SNES original. And it wouldn't have been hard to create spin-offs of some of Pilotwings' sections. For example, the rocketbelt: Take that, but now make it an action-shooter about fighting down aliens and mechs. You can fire guns and missiles, avoid incoming fire, land on power-ups, navigate dangerous energy rings, stuff like that. Or make it a game about rescuing survivors from a destroyed city, having to use the rocketbelt to navigate treacherous terrain, grab folks, fly them to safety.

If you could go back in time, and show your ten year old self any game, what game would it be?

Honestly, nothing from the future, but something obscure and unknown from that era. Like, Ys Book I & II would have blown my mind, as my favorite games of the time were Zelda, Mana, and so on.

What Japanese computer game (or port) is your favorite?

What Japanese computer game (or port) is your favorite? There's so many, it's kinda difficult to narrow it down. Yet the first purely Japan-only PC game that came to mind for me was: Aquales on the Sharp X68000. Aquales is like a mix of Assault Suits Valken and Bionic Commando. I beat it a few years ago, and had a great time. I've tried and failed multiple times to get other folks to play Aquales. I think most western retro gamers just have a built in aversion to retro Japanese PC gaming. It probably all seems too complex and alien on the outset, but the effort is well worth the reward.
Anyway a good video that shows and discusses Aquales: The Scheme on PC-88 is also a very cool "metroidvania" I beat years ago. It was a lot of fun. So it turns out the same guy who did the video on Aquales also did one on The Scheme. Good that will save me a lot of typing, here you go:
I liked The Scheme far more than he did though. The Yuzo Koshiro OST alone is worth it.
Lastly another Japanese PC platformer that doesn't get played enough by westerners is Rusty. I've talked about that one on this forum enough times, you all should know what it is by now. It's the game dunpeal2064 will never beat!

What's your favorite lesser known Game Boy title? I didn't realize I was the only person around here who plays Game Boy games. - Alright here's a different question then: Have you ever utilized the notation section of a game manual before?I mean the part at the end of a game manual that has blank lines in it, intended for the player to write down passwords or information of interest.
