3D Zeldas according to that big dummy Ex:The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds = I put about three hours into this before quitting in disgust, due to it so unabashedly aping the superior
A Link to the Past. I was looking for a new
Zelda experience, not a nostalgia wankfest.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild = I've barely played this at all, despite owning it on Wii U for almost two years now. I'll get around to it whenever. It looks okay I guess.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask = I've never played this, but I own it on 3DS. The amount of backtracking and potential repetitiveness of the "Ground's Hog Day" aspect keeps me at bay. Maybe it's awesome though, I dunno?
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time = I beat this on N64, now own it on 3DS as well. This game is incredibly overrated, even during its own day it was. OoT is however, a solid 3D action-adventure
overall. 7.5/10 for the N64 version.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass = I beat this. It if it weren't for the forced touch screen controls, and lame Temple of the Ocean King core, I actually would have enjoyed this one quite a bit. It's still a lot better than Wind Wanker. 7/10
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks = Spirit Tracks is a game more concerned with being clever than being fun. Much of this game is spent riding a train very slowly, and a large portion is spent fighting the DS microphone. The rest of your time is spent wrestling a touch-only control scheme that loves to flake out when you least need it to. If you can get past these contrived unnecessary annoyances, you'll find a decent Zelda game lies buried beneath. Somewhat entertaining as it is though, Spirit Tracks goes off the rails far too often for its own good. 6/10
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker = A pile of putrid dog shit from top to bottom. I hate the way this game looks. I hate its stealth segments. The sailing is boring. The dungeons are simple and far too few. The plot is trash. The fighting is annoying due to the constant pause effect. And who wants to FISH for Triforce pieces? Not me, that's for damn sure. I could list plenty of other grievances but you all get my gist. It's like the game was only 75% finished and then Nintendo rushed it out the door. Oh wait, that's exactly what happened.
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes = I own this on 3DS, haven't played it yet.
Hyrule Warriors = I own this on Wii U, haven't played it yet.
Link's Crossbow Training = I don't own this, and have never played it.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword = I put a good amount of time into this before quitting out of apathy. SS has respectable ambition and good intentions, but TERRIBLE pacing! SS goes out of its way constantly to prove it doesn't respect your free time whatsoever. I'd say a lot more, but too new for HRG.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess = And at least, here we have sweet blissful redemption. Yes I beat this one, the GameCube version actually. Twilight Princess is a class act from A to Z. Awesome aesthetics, excellent plot, tight fun combat, great characters, tons of variety, and the best 3D dungeons the series has ever seen. This folks is S-tier Zelda. 9.5/10
According to my HLTB, I haven't beaten a Zelda game in six years running! Clearly this series isn't a priority for me. I think King's Field and Brandish have been providing me in the interim with the type hack 'n slash dungeon crawling I used to crave from Zelda, except in a superior more adult-oriented format. Not that I hate Zelda or anything, there's still a few series' entries I need to play, or maybe even finish. But due to the extremely repetitive nature of this series' formula, I'm just not in a hurry.
