About time Ashley Mizuki Robbins got her fair due. That "little girl" is Cereza from the Switch exclusive Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

Uh oh. Although I guess this would have had to happen eventually, regardless. A lot of those responsible for our favorite series are starting to age out.

He's not retiring, though. He's moving to the smartphone gaming division.

Considering DQ12 has been in development for 25 years, might be a good thing for the franchise going forward. I wager toei might have the facts on how integral this guy has been on the series but who knows. Square's going through a lot of changes right now: www.gematsu.com/2024/02/bloomberg-square-enix-plans-major-reform-of-game-development-structurewww.gematsu.com/2024/04/square-enix-appoints-new-executive-officers-naoki-hamaguchi-tomoya-asano-and-moreThey definitely need a severe shake up. Imagine how much better they'd be doing if we had another Nier by now, but instead we got Forespoken which closed down the damn studio and was a colossal flop, that everyone saw coming miles away. And hopefully this leadership shakeup realizes Sony exclusives are a dumb idea in the 9th generation of videogames. I really can't believe an upfront payment supersedes fragmenting your potential buyers with third party games as we're seeing Capcom, Namco, Sega, FromSoftware, etc absolutely killing it on PC thesedays. Yes I will keep beating this dead horse on these two topics because Square should be doing so much better than they are!! FF16 and FF7 Rebirth on day one PC probably would have doubled, tripled the player base for these launches and if we had another kill Nier right now, everyone would be happy and selling millions. Stellar Blade looks like a literal answer to a market they're failing to fill when they had one of the IP's that inspired it directly. Gah! Also don't get me wrong, I'd be clamoring for this even if PC wasn't my primary modern system nowadays. I just don't see the logistics in doing these stupid timed exclusives anywhere anymore. PC market is a different beast and a lot of those people don't even touch consoles. Xbox is a non factor, let's be real. And Nintendo has weaker harder... so you make AAA third party games, get them on PS5/all PC storefronts immediately. I don't see why not.

Xeogred Never heard of him, lol. The same few "Executive producers" are usually credited on damn near every game a company puts out. I assume these types of guys are more businessmen then game developers, or their role in development is more managerial. Japanese wikipedia seems to confirm this: "After working as a PR person for the series for a while, he was given command of the Dragon Quest team. From then on, he will be the leader, and after the merger he will manage the series' progress as the 9th Development Division Manager. For the PS2 remake of Dragon Quest V, he will be in charge of producing the game itself for the first time. As of 2019, he is in charge of the business division as the head of the second development business headquarters and executive producer of the "Dragon Quest series". He will continue to be in charge of branding the series and will be in a position to answer questions at the IR conference after the general meeting of shareholders. Due to his position, he does not appear on stage much compared to the producers on the set, except for events that deal with the entire series, but on the contrary, he often responds to management-related media interviews." And a quote from an interview with him linked on wiki: "Around that time, the Dragon Quest production team was running out of people, so I was put in a position where I was managing the producers instead of just being the sole producer. I was placed in a position to manage the Dragon Quest brand as well, so that's where I got hooked on the job."

I don't know what they're supposed to do in that case. They exist to make money, the remake didn't sell great, so the chances that the sequel remake would sell better are slim to none.
Of course, I don't know if this is an "unrealistic expectations" thing where they wanted to move 5M+, or a budget thing where they needed to move 5M+ to make a profit.

Update: “We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story,” EA claims
Who knows, but I don't trust EA. We've seen publishers like them and Square Enix expect other IP's to sell Call of Duty/GTA numbers.
